Culture Man fired from job for writing Pepe The Frog Fanfiction - REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

"An assistant principal was removed from his position at the Rodriguez Middle School in Denton, Texas after it was discovered he wrote a children’s book starring the controversial internet meme character Pepe the Frog.

In Eric Hauser’s 54-page illustrated story, titled The Adventures of Pepe and Pede, the anthropomorphic frog protagonist Pepe and his centipede friend Pede work together to rid their local swamp of the antagonist Alkah, a bearded alligator who has brought chaos to the entire Wishington Farm. To vanquish their deceitful foe, Pepe and Pede throw magical buds from their farm’s Honesty Tree, apparently red-pilling the alligator to death.

Various internet memes associated with Trump supporters are also referenced in the book, including a cliff named “Kek” and a dedication to Hauser’s “fellow centipedes,” a nickname for users on the /r/The_Donald subreddit.

Following a backlash on social media from those who called his book’s protagonist a symbol of white supremacy, the Denton school district issued a statement announcing that Hauser would be reassigned due to his work becoming a “distraction.”

In an interview with Dallas Observer, Hauser denied having racist or white supremacist views, claiming he found Pepe to simply be a “lovable character” and that he had been labeled racist “in an attempt to silence conservatives.”

While initially self-published, the book was purchased by Post Hill Press after it began trending online. In an interview with the Associated Press, Post Hill Press publisher Anthony Ziccardi expressed surprise about the backlash to the book, blaming online efforts to “turn these characters into something they’re not.”

In the fallout of this bizarre controversy, one question remains unanswered: What effect will this have on the Rare Pepe market?"

Is this amazing book for sale? The amount of keks one would receive would be more than worth any price.

Why hello, best paragraph I have ever read, didn't expect to see you here.

other than being an inside joke, the contents of the book itself are typical children's book fair. it's both asinine and histrionic to declare it a work of the "alt-right" 4chan collective r\The_Donald gestalt racist sexist xenophobic white cis male supremacist Mein Kampf that will corrupt children and kill trannies.

while making such a joke might be crass or offensive to some who understand the memes, to get this salty over it is the height of idiocy.

Here's an article were they interview people involved, including his coworkers.

"The minions of Alkah…it looks like all of their bodies are covered except for their eyes," said Withers, the teacher. "When they are 'freed' all of the dark material over their bodies disintegrates, revealing their pink tone underneath. I mean, how can you look at that and not see what is the meaning there?"

And perhaps don't turn memes and your political agenda into a children's book.

I've sperged out at length (probably at annoying length) about how children aren't developed enough to have fully independent viewpoints, and are supposed to be protected from political stuff, not used as weapons for it. But honestly this is enough layers of abstraction that I don't think it's too crazy to give to kids. This is less brainwashing and closer to a modern version of what parables exist for. Just instead of "Don't steal your neighbors sheep and be nice to strangers" or whatever, it's "Don't let dishonesty cloud your mind, and watch out for bad people who want to hurt you". The whole point of children's stories is to present things they can't necessarily understand in a framework that will let them put two and two together as they develop.

This particular story is... a little heavy handed, to say the least. But it's not as bad as the three year olds on youtube sobbing at the election results or thinking they're getting kicked out of their home for picking the wrong president in a class election, or as bad as over the top strict religious upbringing in an abusive household.

At least it's got cartoon animals in it.

The fuck he didn't know.

A friend that lives in the area sent me a link to the local paper a few days back. His wife is still employed with the district. Most likely 'reassigned' means he'll end up a teacher (instead of a VP) at another school.

Everything about this dude points to him trolling the locals enough to get a wrist slap.

You can get away with a shit ton as a school teacher in Texas. For real.

Also? The controversy means that his dream of being a a best-selling author is coming true. I am not sure he didn't actually pull all this himself. And if that is the case... he's pretty clever.
