People should be careful with accessing computers remotely without permission in US. If anyone remembers, Gov Palin had her email account hacked because of very stupid passwords. The person that did it got in a lot of trouble even though Gov. Palin brought it on herself with very poor password and account security.
Everyone should remember to not do what Phil do. Do not keep same password across multiple accounts. Always involve two part authentication. For security questions, do not use answers easy to figure out from public information (like high school mascot, street you were raised on, mother's maiden name). You should use answers very easy to remember but illogical.
Like question is "Mother's Maiden Name" your answer should be like "MyBigLeftToe". Even though it is not complex answer, it is illogical answer and very difficult to brute guess.
I was once contracted out by US government to give training to overseas personnel on best network security practices. No one really was paying attention, so I let class go for a break and I ask the supervisor if I could "hack" him using information I find of him on internet. Within 15 minutes, I was able to access three email accounts, his facebook account, and his banking accounts (a savings and checking account). I show the class I was able to do this by answering the very simple security questions he had on his hotmail account and from his public facebook account and his wife's facebook account.
You generally only need to compromise one part of a person's security and it daisy chains to further information.
I was suspended for two weeks without pay for doing this. I worked for dick head army officer.
Security is only good as weakest link. People are always weakest link. Like it is very easy to compromise secure systems with simple key logger program. Instead of sending spam emails, which good systems will block exe. files, leave thumb drives everywhere in like public places. You will eventually get a good hit.
The show "Mr. Robot" is surprisingly good at showing many of these issues and techniques.
Now I just realize I make everyone think I am Eastern European hacker. I am not I swear.
