Tested out loading up some 45 Colt with .454 round balls because I have thousands and thousands of them but don't have much time to shoot anywhere else besides my local indoor range. They're about 140 grains (vs the normal 250gr) and I put in 6 grains of Trail Boss just to start.

Turned out they were way too slow. They're tearing my paper targets along the grain and leaving rectangular holes. I wish I had a chrono to see just how slow but they were super soft shooting. In my .45 rifles they had less recoil than a 22.

So essentially double barrel shotguns in any configuration are damn expensive if you want a worthwhile quality level? Noted.

Well at least you all cured me of my Sharptail desire.
As long as your cool with turk crap heritage has a coach gun with hammers that if you shop around enough you can find for 550~750 depending on where it is. As soon as they issue a bit more guidance on how the new law suite rules work I intend to cut it down for a el dorado clone. We shall see if this results in me injuring myself or if it will be fine for such purposes.

410 is dead these days. Ammo costs a fortune. Half the time I see it 28ga is cheaper by a hair
I wish someone would tell manufacturers the 410 fad buoyed by gimmick revolvers is over... then again with the possible normalization of SBS and AOWs maybe Taurus can one-up themselves with a smooth bore "Supreme Judge" in 28 gauge.

Taurus imported one to show off at SHOT show(2013?), the ATF then stepped in and informed them it could either be an SBS or AOW due to not having rifling and so Taurus decided not to put this particular model of the Raging Judge into production.

I don't know if it's applicable to 45 Colt but for similar underloaded ball rounds in 45-70 the ball is pressed deep into the case, deeper than wadcutters even. There's also mid-power 'prison guard loads' with multiple balls stuffed into the casing. Could be worth looking into whether anyone has tried it already. I'm trying to remember what the 45-70 loading was called but it's not coming to me, I just remember they were low recoil/cost training rounds

45-70 has a lot more volume in the casing than 45 Colt obviously, so it might have been a reliability thing in that case and not necessary for 45 Colt

Man, I just want to import an SR410. Imagine putting a collapsible on it. You could hip holster the thing.
