Good god as much as I love barbies, and I'm sorry for my language, but the art is fucking ugly as shit

Wow, I can't believe they decided redrawing barbies was a good idea.
I'm sorry for my language,
The worst part is that Barbie is already progressive enough as is. She has the "You can be anything" slogan, encouraging little girls to pursue their career choices. Barbie has been almost literally everythingSeriously, they think people want Barbies that look like man-faced gorillas?
The biggest selling point for Barbie is she's pretty and you want to dress her up to act out your little kid schemes. An ugly fashion doll would go out of business before it even reaches mass production.

Tumblrinas seem to have not gotten the memo about Barbie actually adding on the diversity too

In terms of toys, it's going to be like cartoons. While one can be on the side of complaining on how it will affect kids, there's still going to be people sperging over toys the same way you get manchildren sperging over a cartoon.People have used Barbie as a vessel for "social commentary" for years. It's a pretty tired take, specially in the art and social justice communities, both of whom congregate on Tumblr. If it's a thing marketed towards children that can be misconstrued as offensive, controversial, or discriminatory in any way at all, people on both sides of the aisle will use it as a talking point.
I think people seriously fail to comprehend the extent to which children do not give a fuck. Most kids don't actually care whether or not a toy "looks" like them; it's more about what the toy can do, or how cute/cool/gross/whatever it is. This is anecdotal, but as a kid I disliked Barbies because of how "samey" and devoid of personality they were. Barbie being "literally almost anything" was the problem- she lacked character.
This isn't to say Barbie diversifying its lineup is a bad thing; like I said, the generic quality of the dolls alienated me from them as a kid. At least varying the dolls physical proportions and hair textures is giving them more distinct personalities, and perhaps improving kids' self esteem. But there is such a thing as trying too hard, and in Hasbro's case, it seems as though they're putting too much thought into what liberal adults think and not paying much mind to what the kids playing with the shit want.
Yeah, this is really off-topic, but I'm sick of people bitching about toys. Can't people find something more important to be morally outraged about?

So why not just make up your own original stuff instead?

The Steven Universe artstyle has become a malignant cancer in fandoms everywhere.
It's easy to draw, easy to make ugly, and is from a shitty progressive cartoon show.
Thus, it has infected Tumblr artists everywhere and is utterly inescapable.
Who are these two characters?View attachment 274550
The fat one over there had his penis cut off in a traumatic experience, so I really doubt he'd be all above calling himself asexie.
Who are these two characters?
Who are these two characters?
Actually they're from Game of Thrones (they still look like themselves, but yeah, they're given tumblr sexualities)
