A businessman in Ahmedabad, India, has caused both national and international outrage following his decision to open a clothing store named after Adolf Hitler. Despite enjoying the publicity at first, the owners eventually backed down after protests were held by the Jewish community within the country and across the world - in addition to pressure from the Israeli State.

The owners had then asked Israel for compensation in connection to the 40,000 rupees ($623) they had paid to put up the sign, and the Israeli government refused.

Edit: I've come to realise this is in fact from five years ago (2012), but the thread is staying up because this story is hilarious as shit. Old weird news is still good news.

I've now corrected the OP (I misread one of the articles and somehow thought it was Karachi).

India currently has a population of approximately 5,000 native Jews, but in the past had more than 33,000. More than 28,000 Indian Jews emigrated to the Middle East after foundation of the State of Israel in 1948, and now more than 70,000 people in Israel identify as "Indian Jews".

The Indians who started it are probably surprised by international backlash.

Indians, in general, do not give a single fuck about Nazis.

The obsession with Nazis is actually very Western, mostly white, and we're basically imperialistically forcing our ideas on actual, literal pee-oh-sees.

Ya naming a store after hitler is like naming a store after napoleon or ghengis khan as far as they're concerned.
