@PurpleFoxx most of our lolcows get away with their behaviors exactly because people outside of these threads tend not to question them. The guy has some sort of weird charisma and a penchant for appealing to the lowest common denominator. Those two alone can get you far on social media from what we've seen.

Also what would the correct pronunciation of "yandere" be? In my head it's "Yan-durr" but it's probably way off.

AFAIK it's 'yahn-derr-ay'. Then again it's a weeb word that weebs use so the actual pronunciation may or may not be way different.

Also, the Yandere School developer should totally hire/take as a volunteer someone who can write completely fluent English. The dialogue seems so stilted sometimes, except unlike Alex they have an excuse.

@sweetpepperfairy I don't want to clog the thread, but I figured I would insert my background as we have many similarities.
I had been a fan of simply watching the development of the game, but I became skeptical after hearing certain things from Alex concerning money. He would go on rants in certain videos, complaining that he needed more funding for the game, that it was taking up all of his money despite patreon, always failing to mention income from youtube. I did research on socialblade and had heard statements from other youtubers who had similar views to the YandereDev channel who stated they made anywhere from 10k to 30k monthly. I had never posted on reddit before, just perused it, but decided to post on Yandere Simulators subreddit to express my concerns. I was extremely polite and kind, yet concise in my issues. Why did his youtube earnings never come up as a way to fund the development? In response, Alex was egotistical, childish, and rude. He completely avoided answering my questions on youtube earnings and instead decided that because I had called him Alex (I just couldn't bring myself to call him "YandereDev"..) I was clearly "from one of those hate sites" sent to try and turn his fans against him. It truly opened my eyes to the reality of this so-called 'professional developer'. That is when I came to this site, and I am really happy I did. People have always been kind and supportive here, and the amount of information I have read in the short time I have been here has been incredibly eye-opening. Just thought I'd share since we have some things in common.

My biggest issue with Alex continues to be his inability to be honest with his fanbase on his earnings, especially when he is asking them to fund a 150k kickstarter once the demo is released. Considering Alex makes profit from many different outlets (twitch donations, youtube earnings, patreon, and now merch) it is undeniable that he has made a lot of money during the stagnant development of his game. He certainly will never come forward with his earnings off of the merchandise, yet will claim it is aiding development. And for anyone to think he spends a dime on development amazes me. He uses volunteers, ideas from others, one single employee from Tinybuild (whom he does not pay, the company itself does) as well as pre-made assets from the Unity store.. the rest is done by Alex himself. How could any money possibly be put into development?

I will always be amazed that people who aren't part of this thread, yet who simply follow the development do not question these things...

EDIT: I took this down to edit my writing. @SwattedKat that makes a lot of sense.. its still pretty amazing though.. especially with so many people willing to fund him without looking further into things..

Not to go too off-topic but if you view some of our other cows (particularly Brianna Wu and DSP) you will see this phenomenon occurs rather regularly on the farms. People will continually support and dump their hard earned income into the pockets of people who see them as nothing more than dollars and cents.

So can someone tell me why people haven't just switched to Yandere School? It's basically just a clone of Yandere Simulator.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/687750/Yandere_School/
There are multiple reasons:

1. Yandere School, at the first glance, looks like shit. For example, in Jay's last Yandere School video I saw, the main character is tilting almost 45 degrees when turning while running and there doorways are made for freaking giants:
2017-09-10 13_41_30-NEW SCHOOL WHO DIS_! _ YANDERE SCHOOL (PC gameplay) - YouTube.png
The rest of the assets (models, textures, animation, etc.) also looks bad. It's your standard Steam Greenlight shit. As for whether the gameplay is good, it doesn't matter when people dismiss your game based on the visual aspect alone. I surely did.

2. The name "Yandere School" is probably the most unoriginal thing that could have come out of the developers' heads and it doesn't stand out. I mean, the BijuuMike's Yandere School video series is called "Yandere School Simulator" and Youtube Gaming tags almost all Yandere School videos as Yandere Simulator.

3. Virtually nonexistent marketing. All they did is sending review copies to some youtubers. Meanwhile, Alex is putting out two videos a month even when he has literally nothing to say, droning constantly on pointless lore of the characters and gameplay features he will never implement, and making edgy jokes. Also, he got a bit more famous during the Twitch drama, getting even the more serious gaming youtubers and video game journalists to notice him.

4. Yandere Simulator has been out for much longer. The characters became recognizable and people got attached to them. The game is free and every amateur video game youtuber used that game to fill the channels. Even people who hate weeb shit have heard about it.

5. Yandere Simulator has tons of Youtube bait, including memes, debug features, "easter eggs" (not so hidden for easter eggs) and recently also literal youtuber pandering, so Yandere Simulator videos are easily digestible, and therefore fun for the attention span of an average Alex' fan.

4. Yandere Simulator was there first. Anything that comes second feels like a ripoff and does so until it's proven to be good on its own. (Of course, the game idea was original and fresh in 2014 because it wasn't Alex who came up with it, but some random /v/irgins on 4chan.)

5. Yandere Simulator is not only the game it is now. For many people, it is also the game that has been promised to them and is yet to come out. Why buy a shit game that is available now, when you can play another shit game for free and wait for it to become a glorious epic edgy weeaboo masterpiece (
it won't
)?

Well he is Ukrainian so I wouldn't expect them to know English very well. Such a small group of people probably don't have the money to pay for a translator or an English friend to help them out.

It's cute that you think people pay any attention to Youtube Tags today. They're as bad Steam tags and are never helpful. For instance, Klub Scouts videos on Yandere School has both the Steam link for the game in the description, but also a link to Yandere Simulator's website for the box art description that tells you what game is being played. Two different companies so there shouldn't be any confusion.

I'd also like to say that Yandere Simulator has a another party working on fixing bugs and what not (tinyBuild), I wouldn't expect it to be free once it's released. Even though the company only works on mostly shitty games, I doubt they worked on them for free. Average cost for the games they worked on go for $9.99 to $14.99 on Steam.

And about the graphics, both games are using Unity Engine. Well known for their asset flips and not giving a damn about their reputation for it.

The Youtube bots are getting confused for the obvious reason of the games sharing a rare word "Yandere" in their titles. Yandere School devs are deliberately gaming search engines and automated tagging systems to sell their game. This is similar to what mockbuster producers do, for example The Asylum: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Asylum and I consider it pretty scummy.

That's exactly the reputation Unity is going for and it pays off. I have already written about it in the Jim Sterling thread: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/jim-sterling-totalbiscuit.25954/page-38#post-2487941
TLDR: Noob devs learn Unity for free and then buy full licenses when they git gud so they can hide the fact they're still using Unity.
Besides, Unity games can look anywhere from total shit to awesome. Both Yandere games are closer to the "shit" side, but IMHO Simulator looks better. But in overall, Unity is a good and versatile game engine.
Firewatch
Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty
Endless Legend
Pillars of Eternity
Cities: Skylines
Cuphead
The Long Dark
Hand of Fate
Subnautica
Ori and the Blind Forest

I wouldn't expect it to be free once it's released.
Duh.
But it's still free as for now.
After free debug builds stop, the interest in the game will diminish. And that's probably the second reason Alex is stalling with Osana.
The first is him being lazy.

AFAIK it's 'yahn-derr-ay'. Then again it's a weeb word that weebs use so the actual .

The pronunciation I was taught is 'yahn-deh-reh' with hard emphasis on the first syllable and the following two being softer. You almost don't even make the 'r' sound for 'reh' like in tsundere. It feels counter-intuitive to me that the middle syllable isn't the hard one.

Japanese has no hard syllables. They're all evenly stressed. It's a tonal language.

Adding to this, the gameplay for Yandere School itself is barebones. The only two ways you can eliminate rivals in the game is by attacking them with a weapon or supposedly pushing them off the roof.[I say supposedly because in my only playthrough, I never saw a situation where I could do so and all I see indicating this is a steam achievment.] The game tells you where the weapons are and who/where your targets are, so you don't spend any time searching or figuring out what you have to do in normal levels. The game does have three 'nightmare' levels, one of which presents a different type of objective, but they're just as short as the normal levels. Because of this, the lack of difficulty, and the existence of only 5 rivals, the game is very short. The story is a low-substance excuse plot that just ties the levels together and has a generic ending.[Along with a sex scene drawn so poorly even Kjech's hentai art is an improvement.] There is a 'customization' feature where you can buy cosmetics for in-game currency you earn by completing levels, but there are only a few bland options that have no impact on the game. The whole thing feels more like a tech demo than a full game. Also, the developer apparently promised the final game would be free according to several angry comments on the release video.

Let's face it guys, Yandere School is just China being China (or not) and doing a bad mobile game to exploit another gaming trend. What makes it special is that compared to other ripoff mobile games is that:

1-It got finished and released before the yansim (with better fps too).
2-(AFAIK) Never stole models from anyone making it ironically more original than the game it copied.

Along with a sex scene drawn so poorly even Kjech's hentai art is an improvement.

it wasn't too bad aside from a few anatomy errors honestly, you're giving kjech too much credit. forgive me if i word this badly but at least in yandere school the scene wasn't hypersexualised and drawn like porn, it was just drawn as "and then they fuck. the end". i wasn't too sure how to feel because they were both minors but nothing graphic was shown

yandere school's not that bad but like y'all said, it is pretty bare bones. i hope it'll will get some sort of updates to make it more fun and exciting. i almost want to see it succeed and run yansim further into the ground

i watched kubz scouts play the final part and when it got to the sex scene, jay just sat and looked absolutely repulsed the whole time like he was some small child learning about sex. i winced

This splitting of the game reminds me of those shitty DVD movies that would allow you to "pick a side" (The only movie I can think of which does that is District 9). They didn't do anything except for having an aesthic change to the menu, and YanSim/Love Sick does little more than that.
