turning off youtube comments just seems like a horrible idea. Sure, it may save his monetization but viewers are less likely to watch things without comments imo. I guess his plan is to focus on Twitch full time.

according to some people on twitter he could still lose monetization by turning off comments because of lack of engagement. Not sure if this is true or not.

This still leaves me confused as what exactly SoK did as the centralized group (other than give a name to Phil's bogeyman) and how's it's endinga affects the detractors in a major way. Two weeks ago people made detractor videos, streams, posts and occasionally trolled Phil--some of these people were members of the SoK. Today these same people (mostly) will do the same things except none of them will be members of the SoK.

When Phil does his "analysis" of the demonetization of his videos, and inevitably comes to some stupid conclusions, there will still be videos, streams and postings and no one will say "I'd like to comment on this piece of DSP buffoonery, but I don't know what to do without the SoK!"

I was just disappointed that SOK weren't just a close group of friends who got together to do podcasts and laugh at DSP. Instead it was actually "this internet thing is SERIOUS BUSINESS!!" And we run this thing like a mafia. It doesn't affect me in anyway and its whatever but the blackmailing is too much. The SOK disbanding is for the best.

Phil is shutting off his comments for good. Comments are probably the #1 metric for judging a channels engagement, so DSPGaming sinks lower in the ranking.

He still thinks he inspired pewdiepie
i wonder how many mental jumping jacks you gotta do to believe that

He may have. It has been proven that PDP has old Phil videos from 2012 and 2013 on his favorites list. This is before PDP started doing his thing. PDP has never stated if he was inspired by Phil but it's a possibility. He may have thought "Hey, this guy can do this and make a living. Why can't I?" And that was it.

'Inspired' pewdiepie to make videos but that's it. Otherwise pdp got where he is today on his own and came up with his own gimmicks and edits his videos(I'm assuming these things as I don't follow him at all really).

Phil is delusional if he thinks he had any sort of hand in the guy's success.

All I'm reading from that twitlonger is that Phil is starting to put all the eggs on Twitch now. Got too used to $500 donations and is going to treat that as the norm, and not a one off. Too bad he's just trading inconsistent money for another version of it.

Also, DSP has no room to jab at other YouTubers for ads. When Argent did his reaction videos about him, DSP had an ad every 5 minutes for a 25 minute video. Most others at worst do it every 10-15 mins for similar video lengths.

Disabling comments going forward won't regain what he lost, no more than it prevented negative comments.

SOK "disbanding" sounds like Phil doesn't realize how much of his weird, toxic free PR he loses. I mean, they were giving the King of Hate free exposure. If Phil weren't an idiot, I would have assumed he used them to fluff his persona.

And then donation fatigeu kicked in. What a couple weeks.

Well, they both have an issue with revealing that they're jacking it to their bases.

What a great idea! Phil's best trait is giving the fans what they want. He always puts his fans wants before his own. So banking his entire future on the generosity of strangers giving him thousands of dollars every month for the rest of his life could never backfire.

I've heard it's negative engagement that could make a video lose monetization. Thumbs up and down included, and although goutboy has them hidden they still count.

And he won't even change how he does things to be more Twitch friendly, because he hates it. He can call Twitch streamers obnoxious and even bigger ebeggers than him, but they actually do things to get people to want to give them money. He won't even do things like talk about something interesting, because his videos are supposed to "be about the game" which is more of a youtube let's play thing than a stream one. If he can even talk about anything besides complaining about money or how people hate him.
