What happened to Phil make him so bitter? Some really close friends of mine play games, and we enjoy taking some time each week to play stuff together. One of those activities we will do semi-regularly is playing various forms of content in Destiny, including raids. We all really enjoy it and see it as a chance to sit back and spend time together. I would think a lot of people can understand that. We live in an age where technology can make up for the problem of distance for friends and family, and can provide a chance for us to stay connected with people after work and life move people away from each other. When you sit and compare how much access people have to each other now versus 40 years ago, it's pretty damn remarkable.

I get that part of Phil's issue with this is an age thing. Kids staying inside all day glued to a screen is a somewhat-valid argument often posed by adults deemed out-of-touch. But it comes off as the ranting of a bitter old man who doesn't have anyone real connected to him. He's out there alone, and he's clearly unhappy about that. As a defense against this loneliness he himself created, he laughs to keep from crying.

This is one of the reasons why I haven't officially diagnosed Phil with narcissism (as a certified internet armchair psychologist). I think the aspects of narcissism are worthy of discussion, but I also think that there is a lot more besides this (especially taking into account that we primarily see Phil through the internet, we're not a party to his internal thoughts or his private discussions).

Bitterness seems to be a commonality in Phil's life (he likes that word). He constantly tries to extend the impression that he isn't phased or held back by various issues and conflicts. He constantly puts it out there that he is being positive and moving forward.

Given how much Phil likes to put it out there that he is definitely, 100% not bitter, I'm guessing that he is actually bitter. Not just about recent events in his life, but earlier life events as well. He hasn't let go of things.

The mention of the Wolverine toy his parents didn't get him is a good example of the way in which Phil perhaps organizes his thoughts. He doesn't seem to open up much, but when he does, he has stories to tell about why he is bitter.

It also shows when his first instinct is to refuse any change and to try and place blame upon anyone besides himself.

In Phil's world he has done no wrong, but wrong has been done to him. It is because of this 'wrongdoing' that he shouldn't have to do anything himself to change things, its "everyone else's fault".

Did Phil ever even display geniune positive sides other than repulsive narcissism in his life?

- Gave away empty game boxes thinking it's something his fans would appreciate.
- Treated his daughter-girlfriend even during her reveal vid on YouTube as if to publicly brag to his viewers: 'Look at this pussy I'm scoring, I'm so cool! *snort*' in his mind.
- Exploits issues other YouTubers face and even deaths purely for monetary gain.
- Openly berates and mocks his enablers, and he still wonders why he's so disliked.
- Was a pretentious know-it-all whiner even during his SF2 glory days.

The only instance I can truly think of was whenever John appeared (or other friends of his for that matter like with Mario and Sonic Olympics) where he kept his usual bitching to a minimum and seemed to actually have fun bullshitting alongside John. Those seem to stand out to me as the only instances where Phil seemed like a decent human being around another human.

This is another angle to Phil's story that makes me think it isn't just narcissism.

After his job loss (where Phil claimed to have some real life friends or at least colleagues he was familiar with) Phil turned inward to the internet. Phil's bitterness meant that he took this negative event in his life and used it as the ammo he needed to never have to change anything. The friends and colleagues he once had (and Leanna at some point) that would keep him in check are now gone. The day to day stories from those people that provide a degree of relative thinking ("my mom just died" or "I just lost my job") are now gone, and Phil has no living, breathing person to compare himself to.

What you're hearing from Phil is someone who doesn't have to account for their actions in any way besides on occasion have to bend down to his supporters. This makes it difficult to think the way Phil currently talks and acts (or indeed since he got fired from his job and became a full-time YouTuber) isn't just an environmental factor. Narcissism is a lot more complicated than that.

My thoughts are that the only way to get a better gauge would be to have someone who knew Phil before his YouTube career. There have been people who claimed this, but no one solid.

Question:
Does Phil even answer the questions he gets on Patreon?
No. He expects you to pledge $20 to get a guaranteed Ask the King question, helpfully in the early portion of the show so it's real obvious these people paid $20, perhaps even twice in a row in the same episode, for the privilege. He also expects you to pledge $50 to get a private Q&A video... which leads onto this that I want to clear up:
Also what the fuck is this:

That was a cause of some fun confusion at the time. People even started throwing a rumour around that DSP had paid $50 for a camgirl video from the (apparently transgender) girl on the right. However Juston Lango is the guy on the left, and was thanking DSP for a $50 private Q&A video.
Juston Lango still in the most recent 20170910 WiP.jpg

He's still in the most recent Week in Preview patron crawl.

A final point, scroll down past DSP's main blurb and you'll see this:

DSP used to add the first video of major playthroughs, the latest KOGaming edited video etc. here... he gave up over 7 months ago now. Patreon gets the bare minimum of attention as now it's just mandatory income for DSP, hence his limits for the current Patrons' Choice playthrough & his whining over Super Mario Sunshine & wanting to shunt it until January: He needs a Patreon goal to also pay its way on YouTube ad revenue & Twitch "participation".

EDIT: It's a good thing I posted earlier about the thumbnails running out, I'm now doing my daily views caps... and DSP's fan minion did get him Mario+Rabbids thumbnails for 76+. Still nothing for Destiny 2 101+ though.

In fact he played for a little over 24 hours, or an average of just under 3.5 hours of recorded YT gameplay videos per stream.

Eddy, if your already amazing autism needs an extra credit assignment, do you think you could add how much Phil makes per hour in your monthly reports?

That would be per streaming-hour of course, not what he considers his other jobs like pressing the 'upload' button on YouTube, silencing detractors on his forums, shopping for groceries, and taxing his pancreas.

It probably won't change anything, but maybe some of his fast-food employee fans would gain some perspective after seeing the tallies.

He really doesn't even make his own YouTube thumbnails?
Jesus you could make one in fucking MS paint or powerpoint. What a fuckwit.

This is the same guy that gave up homecooked meals and buying raw for HungryMan, even if the former is cheaper in bulk and the long-term. No patience, no discipline. Think we'll get to mid 700s in the coming months on Patreon?

So can someone explain why he chops up his videos into so many pieces still? The few LPers I watch don't really do this and will have long videos uploaded to youtube once they're finished on Twitch. I sometimes see these streamers who have little-to-no name recognition pulling in 200+ viewers when playing a 30 year old game on a weeknight but Phil is struggling to keep those numbers on day one releases during prime time.

Any decent ethical adult would find that honoring their obligation would be the "perfect choice" you fat greedy buffoon.

I love how despite all the preplanning about which game he's going to play, he still manages to piss everyone off. What's the fucking point? Who cares what game he's going to refuse to play for some obscure reason?

Other streamers:

Are there even any other streamers who do all this "schedule", "prestream", "patreon's choice" shit? The schedule in particular is so bizarre to me, I don't watch people on Twitch but I can't imagine any of them actually keep to a schedule.

He still thinks it is a way to game the system.

It's because it adds up to more videos, which means more views for him.

I am more familiar with Patreon's associated with YouTube movie sites, and a patron's choice poll is very common. The difference between those and Phil is the movie reviewers/commentators take the inevitable terrible movie that is chosen with good humor and I've never seen one of them cancel it because it might not get the views of something more popular.

Even though Phil insists he still has fun playing games, who the fuck schedules 'fun' for 12:30 PDT?

Also don't forget kids today is Dishonored: Death of the Outsider PREMIERE!!!!!!!!!!

I checked on Steam and people have already played through the entire game in the time it has taken for Phil to wake up and start streaming.

EDIT:
DSP tries it: Trying to calculate the amount of hours from a game versus how much it costs (don't forget he is having FUN playing these)

4 hours is the time it takes for someone enjoys the game and plays it like the stealth game that it is. I wonder how long it will take Phil to run through it trying to kill everyone and dying 120 times?

Today's prestream:
  • Lots of boring shit
  • Snort
  • It's bad to sit down for long periods of time and I have a back issue, you can get blood clots!
  • Will be cutting his stream short today BECAUSE tomorrow there's some game coming out
  • Super Mario Sunshine situation: some bullshit excuse. waah waah. Nintendo will claim my video. Money. That's terrible. bla bla bla.
  • "I did a compromise, people seem to like it, it's basically a win win."
  • "On Sunday night I'm going to close the poll and we're going to find the final result. More than likely Mario Sunshine is going to win the poll, and the second place (which is currently Spyro)"
  • "whatever gets second place will be the patron's choice playthrough for now"
  • "that way I can play it, I can monetize it"
  • "I am agreeing because of these extenuating circumstances, it will be played at a later date, most likely January"
  • "I'm making this commitment so it's a win win for everyone"
  • Apparently the people complaining in the stream chat are not patrons, they are the people who troll voted for Mario Sunshine
  • According to leading expert Phil Burnell, now is the most important time of the year to put videos on YouTube which allows him to survive slower months (this despite him getting less than 1000 views on almost every fucking video he makes)
  • I've seen this comment made about 300 times so far over the past few weeks and Phil hasn't ever responded to it:
  • upload_2017-9-16_0-3-18.png
EDIT:
  • Despite claiming this is the YOUTUBE SEASON, Phil is still planning on taking time off at the beginning of October. His approximate dates are 3/4th until 9th.
  • Not sure why he can't just wait until January when its the slow season (which is his reason for not playing Mario Sunshine).
  • He's mentioning he is way under his Patreon goal yet again and how fun his Halloween shit will be
  • "We're gonna need some people to step up and pledge by the end of this month, so we can hit this goal"
  • "I love halloween, its one of my favorite holidays, I love horror and horror movies"
EDIT:
  • Same fucking spiel about being in a tough position financially which his stream has heard so many times before
  • His viewers know it so well, that some guy posted this like 30-45 seconds before he said it:
  • upload_2017-9-16_0-16-15.png
EDIT:
  • He's going on about his boring ass neighborhood and his boring ass neighbours
  • He doesn't have time to socialize with them "because I'm here working all the time"
  • The other day, while he was OUTSIDE, POWERWASHING his driveway, he saw one of his neighbours (the old lady) and asked if she ever heard him "working". She said when she first moved in she did, but then it stopped. Phil says the reason for this is after he set up his Patreon and his installation of soundproofing this is why she can't hear it anymore
  • Amazing. 10/10 exciting fulfilling life.
  • Prestream is up to 47 minutes now.
EDIT:
  • Some guy called DarkViking or something tipped and mentioned people giving him shit or something, apparently he is not DarthRadovanViking (the butler guy) but apparently someone completely separate.
EDIT:
  • Says he doesn't like doing his webcam shit because people expect him to wear a nice shirt and brush his hair
  • Calls people who don't stream with a webcam a "holdout audience" (this coming from the guy that took like a decade to do direct capture)
  • upload_2017-9-16_0-29-21.png

  • Phil replied to this and bitched out the person and talking shit. He drew a comparison to PewdiePie, basically insinuating that the livestreamer in question and PDP are only popular because they've been around for ages. Strange how this hasn't lead to success for Phil.
EDIT:
  • Prestream over after an entire hour.
  • Says he has to go fix pop ups because it'll be really quick.
  • Really sounded like he was talking to someone (a woman) in the background, but it wasn't clear. I'm sure one of the detractor channels will notice it if its worth it

When asked before he said he would tell the employer ahead of time about his online reputation and how it is all lies. If the employer didn't hire him because of all the "lies" the person is obviously not smart and Phil would not want to work for them anyway.

Employers take things seriously if he believes he can walk in and say they were lies without anything to back it up then he's insane. He'll have to convince them that it was out of context and that's hard to do when it's on video.

Companies are terrified of a lawsuit so they won't take a risk if there are accusations of racism, etc around.

If Phil ever got that desperate there are plenty of non-office jobs out there who don't give two fucks who you are.

Most of the people I know in those category of jobs have much better finances than people in office jobs.
