I refuse to feel any sympathy for Phil until I hear him utter the words that he fucked up by packing his bags and moving to Seattle with Leanna. He's said before things to the effect of how he can't reverse time and not move but he's never once officially said that it was a bad idea to take everything and move to another state far away, while still being financially responsible for the condo in Connecticut. In fact being called out on it is actually something that he usually responds to with scorn and mockery.

I have severe doubts that Phil is anywhere near financial ruin but if he is, it's a bed that he's made for himself and has refused to feel shame about so I have zero sympathy for him.

Tonight's stream is going to be interesting. I'd love to see him get a hard time and some hurtful truths but we all know what will happen, he'll put on his usual humble every man act and receive a huge amount of money in tips and bits, like I'm going to guess over a thousand dollars between his two streams. Then he'll head to Twitter and thank everybody for the positivity. It would be nice to see people not fall for this trap again but we all know Phil's fans aren't the most intelligent bunch.

In a quick mod note, if it's okay I'd say that we should stop all discussion on the content of that Reddit post. It's clearly either Onison or somebody pretending to be Onison, so unless we get something that even vaguely resembles evidence suggesting otherwise, let's move away from that angle.

That makes it sound like all Phil had to do was mow the lawn and clean the driveway more than once a year. :optimistic:Bugged Housekeeping Mechanics?:optimistic:
He can't even do that, now that is was proven that his mentally-ill sociopathic detractors were disguising themselves as gardeners to put his life in danger, dood!

EDIT

The Reddit user is most definitely NOT Phil, but it doesn't mean he's not facing a similar problem. It could be the IRS cracking down on Youtubers after neglecting to properly monitor their earnings for years, after all. But yeah, he'll need to drop more hints for us to get a better picture of his woes (or even if they are real to begin with).

Even if he admits he fucked up with the condo it wouldn't mean much unless he decide to rent it out for extra cash or simply stopping and think clearly what he can do to get more cash. I think you're right about the financial ruin part though, from the surface it seems like he makes enough money to sustain himself and his business, for now. And that the emergency videos was just so he could get even more to keep some of the luxuries he has gotten used to.

Phil isn't near financial ruin. His debt isn't life crippling, it's life style crippling. He is a 35 year old man who thought playing videogames for a living was going to pay the bills forever and make him a rich man. Being an entertainer in any sense is NEVER a good long term career. Why do you think actors like George Clooney, Leo DiCaprio, and Ashton Kutcher who make millions on films invest in other business ventures? Because they know how fickle their acting careers are. If you want to stay afloat and keep a life of luxury, you have to work and contribute meaningful work to society. It is just that simple. Phil never learned this. Phil will probably never learn this.

Which is extra ironic since he has a very-much tilted business degree. It's delicious schadenfreude.

Can someone who knows more about tax clarify if this is true or not before it gets buried?

Even though the reddit user wasn't Phil, you don't have to be a millionaire to owe the IRS big. It turns out that if you failed to pay your taxes completely for 3 years you would only need to make about $230,000/yr to rack up $300,000 in taxes, penalties and interest.

Edit: changed $150,000 to 195,000. Still not a millionaire
Edit 2 Changed 195,000 to $230,000. This is not intended to represent Phil's or anyone else's actual tax situation.

To be fair, special assessments are a part of life for any condo owner. Even if you live in your own single freestanding house, you will need to maintain the physical plant... granted, you can do it on your time unlike a condo but eventually everything needs to get fixed.

True, but you're talking about responsible homeowners and responsible condo owners. Phil doesnt seem to think this way. He doesnt put aside money that he knows he'd need for property taxes and assessments. He acts like property tax is some giant surprise.

Phil also doesnt strike me as someone who would maintain his house and instead do emergency repairs on an as needed basis and fix things with duct tape. I mean the man doesnt even clean the place but once every 3 months. He lives like a pig. And I'm not some fastidious nutcase either but layers of dirt and dust on his electronics shows his neglect. He never changed the oil on the BMW because "noone told me it had to be done"

If Phil even owned a detached house, he wouldnt prepare for the big things that would need to be replaced or repaired (furnace, roof, driveway, siding).

If I were advising Phil, which I would be wholly floored if he humbly took the advice, I would say that from this moment on he needs to view his streaming career as already being over. It was a longer ride than most have, but it's time to put away the games and toys.
When he says that there's no other jobs out there, that's because he's completely unknown to the current occupational market with that gap in his resume.
Beyond what he was already directly advised regarding heading back to the CT condo, working part-time at an office someplace or at least volunteering will gain him contacts and a way to enter back into the job force. Given he takes a first shift job, he could still do streaming when he gets home in the evening and then another stream in the early morning hours. Phil could then potentially gain a brand new audience during those late night streams.
Afterwards, he could look for a more permanent career since clearly being a middle aged Twitch streamer is not a viable long-term plan.
That's at least a start. But again, it would take him humbly listening for once.

The penalty is 25% of the unpaid tax, not 25% of your income.
Also, Phil's nowhere near the income level you'd pay 39.6% on. He'd really pay about $35000 on $150000 of taxable income. And in reality he can probably deduct his mortgage payments and whatnot.

To say nothing of the fact that he's built his entire career at the mercy of YouTube's ad revenue system, which at best can be called a shaky foundation that could collapse at any moment, completely outside of his control.

In the last 7-8 years he's done next to nothing to safeguard himself from that vulnerability or ensure that his career will continue/grow in the long term. He's doomed himself to, at best, living perpetually on financial thin ice, while his physical/mental health slowly degrade.

If it's an assesment it happened right after he lost his full time GF's income to help out and purchased a brand new car. Bad luck for him lmao

if phil has taught me anything over the years it's to always have an emergency fund.

Since they don't teach managing your finances in school, Phil is a pretty good go-to guy to show people what happens when you live like Phil.

I sure as shit have learnt a lot from him.

i suspect he would be honest about complaining about the condo association or whomever if that was the source of the anxiety. the fact that he's not willing to talk about it yet makes me think his issues lie beyond the house itself being the source of financial demand.

Fixed, thank you. I was simply doing a quick calculation pointing out that you don't have to make millions to owe a large amount after 3 years. Obviously not a real life example.

Oh god... That RE playthrough with PandaLee. I'm happy to hear she had the self awareness to vanish her annoying ass off the internet but then again, I was up until 3 watching cringe videos of her so I am hoping she also makes a cringetastic return.

He actually threw her under bus a couple times in last night's emergency vlog. Blaming the breakup for not having meals ready after he is done streaming...lol and losing her income.

Jesus. Even the most basic duties and she couldn't even do that. I wonder who else she's draining or working on as a target.

And I'll have to check out that vlog lol sounds interesting.
