All Chicago citizens now have an official "risk score" assigned to them via computer algorithm. Supposedly, these are even used to decide parole or even sentencing.

I thought this had been around for a while. I remember some study done in Chicago where some high percentage of the murders, if you did a "seven degrees of" type mapping, were connected within one or two connections.

Like guy A is killed. A was killed because he belonged to gang 1 who murdered guy B in gang 2. Guy B was murdered because B's friend C did a drive by of gang 1's girlfriends. etc., etc., etc.

And judging by the skyrocketing homicide rates in Chi-Town over the last couple of years, this has obviously been a rousing success.

So what you're saying is pre-emptive murder of all gang members is pretty much the way to ensure long-term peace in Chicago

Why bother? If they just do it to each other anyway, just let 'em. Pretty sure it was the wonderful LA cops who coined the acronym "NHI" for this kind of crime: no humans involved.

I have heard people warning about this, though.
That political correctness will trump all, and that when the AI is learning the coders will have to 'teach' it to be politically correct.
So, even if >80% of shootings are done by 12% of the population, the AI will be forced to learn that the 60% majority responsible for <10% of shootings are the threat

The idea that a politically incorrect, but factually correct, AI could be introduced to the western world seems implausible.

And the moment a white guy with a high score gets the book thrown at him as he should, those same people will forget their rage and declare "I knew it! Justice was served!"
