Just like how extremists will say they support free speech just to make their ideology seem more moral, abandoning the notion as soon as their own principles are questioned, the less socially adept Rick and Morty fans will say they are nilhistic and sociopathic in order to make themselves seem more “badass” or intimidating, until somebody posts the Xavier RA Chad meme, questions the intelligence of the content of the show, or gives away limited distribution sauce.

I swear that the whole sauce fiasco ginally triggered the avalanche that was building up against the pseudo intellectual and meme spouting of R&M’s worst fans.

Self insert OCs and gay headcanons are a normal (albeit exceptional) part of any fandom - this whole trend of shipping an 80 year old dude with his 14 year old grandson just reaches a whole new level of terrible. I don't get how these people can go on and on shitting on creepos like shad and flouting their supposed csa when they go around drawing young boys fucking their grandads

Good lord, I just went browsing through the Rick and Morty section of Archive of Own and pretty much every page contains fics shipping Rick and Morty. WTF? They're shipping an alcoholic, abusive old man with a god complex with a teenage boy who has a learning disability. Rick is described in series as a "demon or super fucked up god."

On the other hand given the fact that the series is based on there being countless alternate universes there's bound to be a Rick and Morty in canon who are in a sexual and/or romantic relationship which is both funny and horrifying. From what we know of the creator and his history of fucked up stuff he has probably thought about this.

Maybe instead of pulling a No True Scotsman every time someone is an idiot in their fandom, people should just move on from the obsessive concept of fandoms entirely. Fans of things always start to act out after spending too much time in the fandom-circlejerk-echochamber. Whatever happened to just enjoying something while you watch it and moving on afterwards?
