What makes me sad is when a movie or TV show ends up being lost/destroyed. Whenever I hear of one, I always develop a burning desire to see it.

One lost film I'd like to watch is Salome: a silent film starring Theda Bara in another femme-fatale role.

So do you know of any interesting media that has been lost in one way or another?

There are quite a few lost movies I am interested in, which I sincerely pray might be found and restored one day

London After Midnight
The Japanese King Kong movies
The lost vampire movies of 1910-1922
The lost Mummy movies from the same period

However, no list of lost media should be complete without the lost Doctor Who episodes. Here is a list of the ones I hope will be recovered most of all

Marco Polo: due to its lavish sets and vast scale
Daleks Master Plan: Biggest ever serial of the show, which includes some of the first doctor's best moments
Power of the Daleks: the single best lost episode given the script, audio, and photos/clips we have.
Evil of the Daleks: Joint second best with Fury From the Deep.
Fury from the Deep: Joint second best and arguably the single greatest horror episode(s) in the show's history. Suck on that weeping angels.

There are quite a few movies that are still in existence but are simply stored in an archive gathering dust. Then there are those that are stuck in licensing hell because the licensor wants too much money or the movie's company went bankrupt. Sadly, in the case of silent films, there's a very high chance that they were destroyed by studio executives who no longer had any use for them.

I also would love to see lost footage of The Wicker Man. Apparently, producers cut several scenes and literally threw out the original negative. Although it seems that last year, they managed to find a print in the US that matches up to the director's intentions.

There's an entire wiki devoted to finding lost media.

https://www.lostmediawiki.com/Home

People here scour the internet for lost media and seek to reupload it. No matter how obscure.

I remember this guy committed suicide and recorded an 18 hour video prior to doing it, and this wiki not only got in contact with this guy who bought the tapes but also uploaded all 18 hours of it. That's how committed these guys are.

There's another wiki that is specifically devoted to cut content in video games. It's referred to as "The cutting room floor"

Some lost films I'd like to watch are:
Him: a movie about gay Jesus
Sex Charade: a Jess Franco film starring Soledad Miranda. Apparently, a print was found but the sound was missing.
Salome: a silent film starring Theda Bara in another femme-fatale role. Apparently, a French film preservationist had been given a chance to restore this but passed on it because he felt it wasn't enough of a classic to be preserved. Now it's lost.

I agree. Theda Bara was the original femme fatale, with a bit of sexy early 20th century Orientalism thrown in for good measure. It's a shame that anything involving her has been lost to the ages...

Personally, one bit of lost media that has always intrigued me was the infamous spider pit scene from King Kong, where the sailors get eaten by various spiders, insects, crustaceans, lizards and snakes that come out of the crevices when they are thrown down into the pit. Peter Jackson actually did a recreation of it when he did the remake, and some photos, sketches and even models from the original scene remain, but I hold out hope that one day maybe the original will be recovered. Bloody unlikely as that may be. Alternatively, time travel...

There are also no shortage of Asian movies that are not being preserved either, unfortunately, as they were churned out even in the "golden age" of the 50s and 60s, and copyright has always been rather fast and loose on the subcontinent.

Even moreso! The lost Doctor Who episodes are so frustrating to me because there was no justifiable reason for the BBC to wipe the tapes in the first place. It will go down in history as one of the great blunders... well... okay maybe I'm being a tad melodramatic here, but damnit, its Doctor Who! It's especially sad to think that so many of the early episodes may be lost forever. Hartnell was the FIRST bloody Doctor, and yet how many of his serials remain? That's sad my friend, very sad.

Ooo... I didn't know that. Here's to hoping we'll finally see it after all! The original Wicker Man is one of my favourite horror movies of all time.

Hmmm. Can't say as I'd heard of that before, but thanks for the link. I'll have to browse through that now.

I kinda stopped reading LostMediaWiki after stumbling accross the transcript of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley torturing and murdering a little girl, as taken from the recordings the two made of their rape/torture/murder sprees.

Its a good site but for your own sanity do not go to that page and follow the link there.

Lol Judge Holden advising people about their sanity.

Here's an interesting article of 10 lost films that resurfaced: http://listverse.com/2014/01/15/10-great-lost-films-and-where-they-turned-up/
Joan of Arc was found in the janitor's closet of a Norwegian mental asylum and the Australian movie Wake in Fright (starring Donald Pleasance) was found in a crate marked for destruction. Others were found around the world and compiled together or in a rice pot.

I would love to get my hands on a copy of the clerks sitcom pilot

There are plenty of films I wish were lost.

As for those that have been lost, in many cases, I'm confident they'll be found online on some Kaznian site.

On the subject of terrible sitcoms...allow me to introduce the absolute worst into the thread

http://lostmedia.wikia.com/wiki/Heil_Honey_I'm_Home!_(Missing_Episodes_From_British_1990_Sitcom)

Heil Honey im home is...well you can guess from the title. Thar are between 12 and 16 episodes that were recorded yet never shown due to faggets finding the whole concept "too offensive"

While I have no doubt the others would be absolute shit, i believe they should be released just so the world can witness how hilariously shit they are

You're tempting the darkness that lies in my soul, but I don't want to fall into that kind of rabbit hole today. I need to be able to sleep tonight.(:_(
