I'm still struck by how he seems like a parallel universe version of Tarn Adams. Both make roughly the same amount and both make thier living via donations from fans, and both tend to put out frequent updates on game progress.

Except Tarn actually has a working game thats been constantly refined, updated and changed over 10 years, with fans who are perfectly fine with tarn delaying releases because he's shown that delays help him make a much deeper game. heck, the army arc for DF has been talked about for about 4 years and its just now starting to look like we may get it in the next version. But in that interval we've gotten a whole bunch of new features added to the game in the meantime. he makes a point in every monthly update to thank his fans for donating to him so he can keep working on the game.

and Eva has given us, what? a broken, buggy collection of memes with the one big thing he's talked about still not even clopse to working, the rivals which should theoretically be the center of the game. he treats his fans with a mixture of contempt and condescension, up to casuing some of his defenders to come to this thread and trash talk him.

I mean, at least the bugs in DF lead to funny community in jokes
Toady also has, like, a vision for Dwarf Fortress, whereas Alex Mahan has none for Yandere Simulator.

Not to sound cheesy, but how can he have a vision for Yandere Simulator when he doesn't even have one for his life?

What would he be doing if he wasn't 'working' on Yandere Simulator? Still living in his parents' basement, streaming games 24/7 and having his mom bring him tendies?

He's probably prolonging the development to justify his lifestyle, so he can say he has a 'paying job' without looking like some loser with no job living with his parents.

Also, Toady and his brother started Dwarf Fortress because they enjoy game dev. Alex started Yandere Sim out of spite, because the chans and Mike realized what a cow he is and he wanted to prove them wrong.
So barring volunteers, he's a one-man team with no vision, no love for his game, the bare minimum skills, and no motivation aside from cash. Sounds like a recipe for an abandoned project. Wonder if the crowdfund will be the thing that makes or breaks the game.

Hey guys, I just joined the farms purely because of this thread and hoo boy you guys rock.
I used to be a fan of YS and even volunteered to be a character artist back in 2014. However my sexy teacher design wasn't good enough for his fantasies. Apparently huge tits and a short skirt didn't appeal to him enough, he seriously wanted me to show her thong and bra.
I replied with a "wouldn't she be fired for provocative clothing?" He said no because it's a game. Yet he wants it to be taken seriously. No one's going to take a game like that seriously, are you kidding me? Luckily the discussion ended then and he never used my design in which I am quite happy for after discovering this thread about a year or so ago.

I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, after all, all that stuff with Mike-Z happened years ago but I see now that he's still holding one hell of a grudge and is a complete man baby to this day.

Someone is seriously going to take this premise and make it a real game before he even implements all the rivals I bet. This is why you keep ideas seeeeeeecreeeeeeeeets dude. (Yet if a game like his "game" is released before his the rapid 12 yo fan base will probably throw autistic fits.)

Jesus, you know there's a problem when MODS add more content than the game ever could in 2 years.
It lacks so much substance after "years of development". I'm still gonna get the game IF it comes out though. I'm just gonna pirate it. He's getting way to much cash for poking his sand box with a stick. He has no excuses and he's pathetic.

Lurking around for 800+ pages really gave me insight on game developing. Kudos, mates.

Got any e-mails to show off then?

Halloween is few weeks away, any guesses what kind of shitty mini-game he's gonna release this time? Last year it was the Undertale-copy and the year before that Yanvania. Maybe Cuphead since it's still hot?

I mean Cuphead would be super hard on any of his animators though since it was made with handdrawn cells. I mean streets it WOULD be hard if he believed in quality. So I expect him to just lazily paste Yandere's head on characters and call it "a homage"

just another person rolling in as a result of this thread. it's been pretty damn entertaining to read through this so i decided to hop in because why not?
i dont remember how i first found out about Yan Sim, i think it was from Rev of Vinesauce playing a little bit of it. me being the weaboo i am took a look into it and got hooked. I didn't really think anything of YandereDev and thought he was a pretty chill guy. Oh sweet naive little me

Wall Flower (hi there) and I have been friends since grade school and she already mentioned that she tried volunteering for Yan Sim but got rejected simply because the Teacher design wasn't 'sexy' enough. After that, she showed me the design she had sent in and explained what happened. Even back as a naive fan when that happened I thought it odd that that was the reason her design was rejected, not because of game design, modeling, or budget purposes. I myself considered sending my own artwork in, but I got too shy and never did so. Judging by the way he's treated the volunteers, seems like it was the one time anxiety worked in my favor lol
I always wanted to do fan art too, but I never got around to it and from the looks of it never will.

Even when I consistently downloaded the builds, I'd only play for about 5 minutes before exiting out of it and doing something else. It was fun early on, but the fact that he keeps creating pointless easter eggs in place of actual game content to make it fun kind of burns me out. It doesn't help that he explains literally everything about a game feature whether it be in a video or an update post, so it's like there's no adventure for the player. As someone who likes to go the pacifist route when able, I thought that the Matchmaking update would've been groundbreaking in my eyes. I booted it up, and...played for 5 minutes before quitting.

If YanDev did indeed listen to suggestions, or had an actual team instead of making all his volunteers do his work for him, then the game wouldn't be as bare-bones as it is right now. I see so many people in the comments of YanSim videos who have amazing ideas for the game that could keep it from getting boring, yet because of YanDev's stubborn attitude towards people sending him the dreaded email, they'll never even be heard. For a developer who wanted to be the kind who listens to his fans, he never really did a good job of it.

Wall Flower was the one who forwarded me to this thread in the first place while we were having a conversation. I knew from fooling around on TV Tropes that YanDev was EvaXephon, but I thought that he put all of that behind him when he started developing YanSim, and I thought he had changed since then. It's damn disappointing to find out he's still like that.
Just another guy added to the "person who has an ego the size of Jupiter especially after their content got popular" pile. Fun times.
At least, after reading through these threads, I have a pretty good idea of what NOT to do when developing a game (as I've always wanted to try my hand at it, even if its a short silly meme game. lol)

I'd add more but I've already typed up a wall of text, so I'll end this post here. Keep it up, everyone.

Too many easter eggs and memes to take it seriously.

Too many easter eggs and memes to take it seriously.

Indeed. For all he says that the game is supposed to be a dark and serious game, he sure puts a lot of work into the unnecessary easter eggs and memes. The recent update was full proof considering the headmaster has new lines when you go into his office wearing a box over your head. If he's gonna keep adding memes to his game, then people are going to treat it as such.

It's a little bit like when Tommy Wiseau tried insisting that The Room was actually a black comedy when it was clearly a (failed) romantic drama. No one fell for it, and no one's going to fall for YanDev trying to say that YanSim isn't a meme game when it's full of them.

YO! I found the design I sent him buried waaaay deep into my facebook. However it's really fucking gross so I did a super quick and crappy redo.
Just in case anyone wanted to know the design he rejected back in 2014ish. I don't see that much of a difference between this one and his "official" substitute teacher though. Was mine too tame for him?

Way too tame for him I mean look how small her breasts are and her hips aren't nearly as pronounced as he likes them

Literally what fucking person is going to even consider picking up this game (if it ever get's past 5% completion that is) when Yanderedev gives us all what's essentially a shitty hitman prima guide through his update videos? Anyone who had any interest in this played the demo, there's literally nothing to discover or any reason to do anything different.
