Spent some time on Planetside 2 tonight and discovered that there's a Kekistan outfit, [K3Ki].
Weirdly, they fight for the Vanu Sovereignty, a faction of crazy religious weirdoes who live in a (frozen) desert. Given how smart these people are, I doubt they understand the irony.
EDIT: Just remembered something else about the VS: The faction was founded by a heavily autistic man, canonically.

All of these thing were specifically chan culture until they got out and normies started playing with them but they didn't understand the underlying joke. They interpreted the meme as the joke. And you were seen as being "in the know" because you would laugh on seeing it and others wanted to be as cool as you were and so on.
Memes have replaced comedy or at least clever sayings. Just look at any video for Gordon Ramsay. It's littered with folk going, "IT'S RAAAAAAAAAWWWWW!", "Helllllo!
