Phil talking about how he used to be in the top 10 viewed YouTube pages made me wonder if there's any evidence that this is accurate. Naturally I was skeptical but instead of calling bullshit, thought I'd ask if anyone knows if this is verifiable

He was sort of but he cheated to get there. He was actually consistently in the top 10 viewed, however it was for the top 10 viewed for THAT category and not all time. However, in order to achieve that he'd use other categories except from gaming, specifically ones that not a lot of people on Youtube watch. So yeah, he was in the top 10 viewed, almost every month. But it was the top 10 viewed for GARDENING.

He was in the top 10 viewed for gaming once or twice, but never top 10 all time.

After saying it's "Impossible" to do, Phil now wants to do a cooking stream as a patreon goal.

It´s always impossible for Phil until he notices that his money is about to dry out.

He probably thought the drunk Christmas goal would make his Patreon shoot sky high right away. Since it didn't instantly hit the goal in 24 hours he has to panic and actually listen to what fans want.
So apparently he's going on a rant about being the originator of playthroughs? I mean if he meant a Failthrough then yes?
He did concede he was not the first Let's Player, at least for today, but he is saying nobody used the word "playthrough" before Dsp. Sounds like bullshit, but didn't look for any proof.

He's said so before and people have pulled up loads of screenshots going back to when YouTube just started being a thing, it's somewhere earlier in this monster of a thread

I played and beat this game as a kid, and I remember it could get really confusing at times. I see Phil getting past the tutorial and quitting on the first stage. Phil doesn't have the patience for some of the dumb puzzles this game has in store.

Are Phil's fans actually excited for the concept of this holiday marathon after that awful Halloween stream? Why doesn't he just brainstorm with his fans and see what they want? Is he afraid of them or something? Phil's fans are dense as fuck, but even they can't be dumb enough to want something that basically amounts to a 2nd Halloween stream with a new costume and new games. If he wants a Christmas Holiday theme game to play, maybe he should finally finish Parasite Eve like some of his fans have been asking for. Otherwise, it is literally him playing 3 hour demos of games, calling them trash, and pissing a bunch of people, including his fans, off.

I wish you could sort Youtube videos oldest first because it'd prove him wrong instantly.

That's such a needlessly specific thing to try and argue, and be proud of, though. It's like demanding people recognise you as the originator of reaction videos, and when you're forced to admit that there were others that predate you, you start ranting about how you were still the first one to use the word "commentary".

Forgive my lack of endless video game knowledge, but does anyone know what kinds of games we should expect from this event? I'm not aware of any games that are "Christmas themed," especially ones that he'd be able to play on his console.

He'll probably do his usual Christmas WWE stream-nothing to do with Christmas but he's done it for a few years running and fans seem to enjoy it. Apart from that, I'd expect him to do the Overwatch Christmas events and maybe revisit Dead Rising 4 or the Christmas DLC for Saints Row 4.

But as people have already pointed out, most Christmas movie tie-ins are old and pretty terrible.

Other YTers have called their videos that since at least Spring 2008, it was just a less common term than Let's Play back then. Phil was a nobody on YT until his Fallout 3 LP in late 2008 so yeah, he's lying (what else is new).

Also, for a while, he was claiming to be the first person to make a buck off of LPs. Probably false and really not something to brag about even if true.

All I can think of is The Grinch game and the Elf bowling game and thats it. I think a Dead Rising game was set during Christmas? Stardew Valley has a winter season with Christmas? Harvest Moon? The Sims Seasons?

The Christmas WWE rumble sim is one of the few DSP videos I actually like. It was actually funny. It was mostly due to Rambo though, all Phil did was clap like a seal and ACK ACK the whole video. And also it's kinda hard to fuck up a WWE Rumble Sim with wacky characters, they're always entertaining anyways no matter who does it.

It is like a person coming in 4th place at Evo but since the three above him were Asian the person claims they were the #1 U.S. player that year. Hey wait a minute...

Another thing you have to remember is the games probably have to be on PSN or Xbox live if he doesn't have it already. He has ordered games before, but since he won't even start voting until the goal is met it is doubtful he will order any physical copies of games, claiming lack of money and time.

He is the first person to coin the phrase "hardcore gaming season." Largely because he's also the only person to call it that.
It's because it's something that sets him apart from the rest. He plays it up like there are so many releases during this time that only the most hardcore gamers are able to do them all. And since he's the hardest of the hardcore gamers and one of the best overall gamers in this country, according to himself at least, then nobody else can touch him and blah blah blah.

DickStrokingPhil is an idiot.

This is a totally underwhelming product that I wouldn't pay any money for.

- 7 hours isn't a marathon. Phil already streams around 6 hours of gaming each day (with a Hungry Man inbetween). What makes 7 hours much different than a regular stream? People on Twitch do 12 hours... 24 hours... hell, they do entire weeks for charity.

- As with Halloween, Phil will be streaming anyway around Christmas, competing with every other streamer who will be wearing a Santa hat just because it's Christmas and not for $1125.

- We just saw how disappointing the Halloween stream was. We just saw that a costume doesn't really add much. We just saw that starting 3 new games is a waste of time because he'll never return to what he started. We just saw how bored and unhappy he was, and that he boredquit/ragequit all three games. Of course he'll retroactively say it was a "great" stream and "everyone had a lot of fun".

- There aren't many Christmas-themed games, but you can bet his paytreons will pick some games he'll hate the most. Cue more boredquitting and sullen commentary.

- The tease of a drunk stream is pathetic. This is a man who pretended that he'd started an ARG after an accidental drunk tweet. He won't get drunk enough to lose control/authority of his stream. He saves the private gin party for afterwards.
