You'd think the developer would have done extensive testing on the pronunciation of commonly used names before releasing this to the public.

I can't even right now.
They probably did, which is why "Nicarri" was mispronounced.

ETA: it doesn't actually say nigger, but instead nicker which is closer to being UK slang for underwear.

We use synthesized speech on behalf of schools to notify parents of school-related information. Often, we play back student names as part of that information. We have one school that is pretty upset about the pronunciation of one of their students' names: "Nicarri".

Bing Speak pronounces it "nicker", which over the telephone resembles a racial slur.

Go to https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/cognitive-services/speech/

and try "My name is Nicarri".

In light of the current political environment, the school is rather upset and news media is picking up the story. MS, are you listening? You might want to make a small adjustment to your speech synthesizer.

Another poor victimized woman of color, previously a slave, looking for more reparations for the immeasurable damages done to her.

Note how she doesn't even accept the school's public apology, she just whines that again, her little Niccari missed class again the next week and she got another racist phone call about her truant child.

Parents really need to stop obsessing over how their kid's name is pronounced, but still I need to know how this Automated call pronounced "Nicarri" because it's hard to see how the N word can be pronounced there's an "A" in the name, was that never pronounced?
