Culture Blogger suggests Taylor Swift is Alt-Right, Swift sues - You can't be neutral on a moving train.

The American Civil Liberties Union is swooping in to defend a blogger who criticised Taylor Swift for her current silence on political issues, accusing her of enabling an alt-right and white supremacist fanbase around her to exist.

Writer Meghan Herning, whose piece was published on PopFront Magazine, which currently has 201 followers on Twitter, received a letter from Swift's attorneys demanding she retract the article, threatening to sue if she did not comply.

Titled "Swiftly to the alt-right: Taylor subtly gets the lower case kkk in formation", Herning's piece claims Swift's single "Look What You Made Me Do" contains "dog whistles to white supremacy in the lyrics".

Lines like "I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time", quoted by alt-right publication Breitbart on Twitter, are equated by Herning to ideas that white supremacy has gained new traction in the wake of Trump's election.

She also compares shots from the video where, dressed in leather, Swift addresses an army of followers to images of Adolf Hitler. "Taylor lords over an army of models from a podium, akin to what Hitler had in Nazis Germany," she writes. "The similarities are uncanny and unsettling."

Taylor Swift went from being weirdly beloved by lightweight celebrity-obsessed "feminists" to being absolutely despised. The hate's been simmering for a while, but it exploded when she dated Tom Hiddleston. Certain women will never forgive her for that. A cheerleader corrupted their dorky imagined boyfriend. They started tearing him to shreds for it too. It may have been a smart move on his part; a lot of his scary obsessed fans are done with him over it.

So it's really not political, except in some kind of "personal is political" extremism. Taylor Swift is the pretty popular girl who dated the boy a bunch of them wanted. And the usual suspects are all too happy to jump on any type of hatred that will get them clicks.

Holy shit, I actually forgot about Taylor Swift being on stage with Lena Dunham and other rich white feminists endorsing Hillary. The left really does have a short and selective memory.

But Beyonce could bomb a school and that part of the left would keep bowing down to her as their queen. How being a leftist and worshiping at the altar of unimaginably wealthy celebrities became compatible I'll never understand.

From what I hear Taylor Swift is too busy doing something called "rehearsing" to engage in performative virtue signalling. The chronically unemployed blogosphere of course has no idea how Ms. Swift is able to convert her dancing into money and remains jealous of her sorcery.

My god, it's almost as if her runaway success is attributable to the fact she spends her days putting work into it.

Wow, this Nazi freakout shit really is the left's answer to the Satanic Panic is they're getting to the point of accusing mundane pop songs of promoting coded messages and pop stars of being secret Nazis.

I can't believe Trump, cartoon frogs, and some shitposters would cause a good majority of the left to go full blown crazy conspiracy witch hunt.

A big chunk of the left actually bought in wholesale to the Satanic Panic. Ms. magazine had a cover story claiming it was all true. It's like how the "all heterosexual sex is rape" faction of radfems teamed up with the religious right to crusade against porn back in the day.

I think the church lady faction of the left was mostly buried for a while, so people aren't used to it any more. I have no idea what kind of evil necromancy brought them oozing back to life. But historically, they've mostly been as commonplace as their twins on the right.

You have to constantly virtue signal on social media. Otherwise you fall under suspicion.

Best guess would be a couple of things. First I'd say it was the eight years of Dubya coupled with eight years of Obama that prompted the left to not only make up for lost time, but try and push shit further than they previously did. Second, for all the talk of the right eating their own over who and what is and isn't towing the party line and marching in step with it (and they absolutely will do that), I've noticed the left is far, far more cannibalistic.

So I'd say it was just a matter of time before they got back to being this level crazy.

I don't look at it as 8 years of Bush and 8 years of Obama. I look at it as 16 years of comedy central telling spoiled children that their beliefs are normal and everyone else is fringe.

And then facebook said "hold my beer".

After the Satanic panic we were almost immediately thrust into political correctness, after which it all died down significantly. I think it's because society realised we shouldn't listen to those idiots. We need to realise that again.

What really killed it in the early 90s though? How can we replicate it?

There were also certain individuals (goddamn Winterfox) who sprayed poison everywhere and made people too scared to speak up. With people like her and Riley, it was pretty clearly malice aforethought. And the people who weren't scared thought people like that were mere trolls at niche sites, and/or were too busy actually living their own lives, until they woke up to... this. Ye olde story of fear on the one hand, complacency on the other, I guess.

What, so in the age of Drumpf celebrities have to make platitudinous political statements to avoid being ostracized by their peers?

Taylor Swift has always been apolitical. It's how she's run her career from the very beginning—like a business. All she gives a shit about doing is making as much money as possible. For her it doesn't matter if it comes from alt-right speds or from SJWs who shriek about her "white feminism" but will buy her records anyway; as long as they continue to put money in her pocket, she'll be satisfied. That's just how she and other artists like her operate.

I'm not going to track it down again, but I remember last year there was a post on my Tumblr dash about how Taylor Swift helped Drumpf win the election because she didn't lecture her concert-goers/Twitter followers on why they should vote for Hillary. They brought up "white feminism" and how Taylor should should have spent more time lecturing girls from post-apocalyptic states like Texas and Tennessee about politics.

Like, are these dumbasses aware that most of Taylor's fans are teenaged girls and thus unable to vote? Or that literally no one except for SJWs and alt-right speds want entertainers to lecture them about politics? When you become a performer, you don't also sign up to become a political spokesperson.

I've been looking and I cannot find a single photo with Taylor Swift and Hillary Clinton in it. And yet this is all I could find...

A chance meeting at the Tonys

I don't really think that's the case.

I think Beyonce just needs to say something like "hey, I love all my fans, including people who I disagree with politically, I just want us to all come together for blah blah blah, love tenderness blah blah blah".

I started to write "vote for trump", but even just being vague is enough to get her crucified by the kangaroo court of social justice. Or at the very least, get deemed "problematic" until she hates on Trump voters some more.

It's like scientology. "problematic" == "suppressive person"

The Nazi accusation is incredibly damaging, and if it's false, it's clearly defamatory. You're accusing someone of being the enemy of all of society and basically a criminal. If this isn't defamation per se, it's definitely defamation per quod.

At some point these left-wing fucks relentlessly screaming Nazi at everything that annoys them are going to get stung hard by a huge libel verdict.

If a false accusation of being a Nazi sticks, it can destroy a career and make someone a social pariah. This is exactly what defamation law is intended to prevent.

I've been waiting for Palmer Luckey to sue Neogaf or Reset Era.
