Theres honestly too much money in it for him, more than he lets on he gets.
Like others have said, most of his Fans are young or actually mentally handicapped to some extent and think he is great because he has no bed times, can play and eat whatever he want with no mommy telling him any different, farts and burps with poopy jokes and the occasional racist jokes of "chingy changy wang im an asian man" that for someone like my 10 year old brother would find funny because its just funny rhyming mouth sounds, kids and slower people love this stuff, they lap it up.
And then there is the sad situation of that 21 year old guy that felt the need to tip as if it was his daily duty to phil in his stream chat the other day, cmon, you have to realise theres some poor disabled sods phil has donating to him, and phil has NO guilt when that shit is said in his chat, im sure the majority or straight up all of us would feel bad if a guy said:
"i wasn't able to tip today, im sorry JoRo
"Then donates to you saying something the long the lines of "A wealthy JoRo is a happy JoRo for streams
"its just.... sad.

Seattle min wage is 15 dollars an hour but only within the city until 2020. Phil could commute and work at starbucks in the morning he'd make 15 an hour plus tips. Then he could come home and stream. I don't think mcdonalds would give him full time at 15 an hour they'd severely limit his hours to compensate. He would only have to do that untill some of the debt is paid down or whatever the sink hole is that's sucking his money.

Phil could market his "DSP Tries It" videos as a form of appetite suppressant for people who are dieting. There's nothing like the sound of him stuffing his face to put you off your dinner.
Socialblade is wrong in how much money is made on a channel.
It is correct on views and subscribers since that is publically available information.
But socialblade have no idea what the CPM is for that channel. A *decent* CPM was around $2 per 1000 views but with adpocolypse CPM's probably dropped.
I can't recall what the figure was but he revealed his CPM when he was with machinima (which you're not supposed to do, NDA agreements and all)
tl;dr He could be making even less than what you see on socialblade. Remember that he was bitching about KOGaming being blacklisted as well.

So based upon this whole "cholesterol" and "no red meat, but I'll have this white bread" shit, its pretty easy to see he doesn't actually do any reading or learning at all. That's ok because the guy on the TV who tells him all this obviously does it for him.
It's actually starting to come together for me pretty well, Phil is the ideal American.
He sits in front of his TV watching wrassling and telemarketing, orders stupid shit on his credit cards, eats his hungry man dinners and is 5 feet away from a health insurance disaster. All the while any money he does actually earn gets eaten away by payments he isn't even aware of (like him not knowing how much his cable TV cost). Any health advice he's aware of obviously came from a talk show host and it'd be too complicated to do a bit of reading to actually learn something.
When you look at anything he tries to actively do in his life its pretty much what you could expect from someone who is solely engaged with their television. Phil is pretty much a clear cut example of what "Idiocracy" was warning us about:
I guess we're lucky that Phil hasn't had any kids yet, come to think of it @BSV is probably doing a public good by funding Phil's current lifestyle which ensures he's never going to get any China and thus the world will hopefully never have to experience a baby Phil (just kidding Phil is a baby already)

When you think about it, Phil had such a great chance to put himself in financial security and he just pissed it all away with his dumb spending habits. When you look back at the insane amount of statues he had and the BMW, and even when he moved to Washington he just instantly took the first house they saw just to get out of CT ASAP and it was full of problems and they had to spend a ton of money fixing it. I remember it had mold and mildew and all the blinds were fucked. Even then I'm sure you all remember his weekly instagram posts of him going to fancy restaurants and people use to look at what he ordered in the restaurant and it'd be like $50 - $100 on fancy meals.
But if we go back in time a bit, to 2011 and to a lesser extent 2012 as thats when the views started slipping. That contract he was on was wow. As DSP called it, it was the gravy train. He was on a views based contract and was all the way until like 2015 or something. I dunno how much he got but even if he got 1 dollar per 1000 views its pretty nuts. I mean he'd upload 12 - 24 videos a day, and they'd all get around 5000 views by the end of the month, and the first 5 parts would get like 10k views and his vlogs like 20k views by the end of the month and his last parts would get like 30k views, sometimes up to 40k and this isn't counting residual views, I think he once said the majority of his views came from residual views. He rushes through games too to make way for the new releases and he used to be a lot less selective than he was now, low views, high views, any new release he just played, even if it was like 4 games released in a week. So that's a lot of first part and final part views. So he was making a fuck ton of money in 2011 and 2012. It must have been like 10k a month.
And not once did he ever think "Lets save this up" or "Lets put this in an emergency fund" He's legit spent that all? I mean I can believe it after hearing that he "needs" 300 dollar headphones and he just picks the most expensive items thinking they're the best, and he was considering getting a credit card or a loan just for head phones. No wonder he's in so much debt. The fans just pour in the money and he legit just pours it back out on either loans and debts he probably didn't need to take out, or on silly items that he thinks he needs, or trying to afford a lifestyle he can't afford anymore.
He could have easily gotten out of this debt just by saving and budgeting himself. Like really really easily. He wouldn't have even needed to save up back in 2011 or 2012, if he started changing his spending habits in 2016, that would have been enough to save him.

@OneDaySon I agree with everything you wrote except the house part. Every home is gonna have something wrong with it. In the grand scheme of things a little mold removal & installing blinds is nothing. Plus, he (through complete dumb luck I'm sure) ended up buying right before a huge housing bubble in Seattle started. I looked at identical homes on Zillow in that same development that sold for well over $300,000. I think I saw one that sold for over $350,000. He bought that house in 2014 for $265,000. That's a damn good investment & he should've sold it when the market was at its peak. Unfortunately for him though, he's stupid, greedy, lazy & stubborn. I really do hope he is forced to sell it. The work involved is gonna cause so much bitching on his part. It'll be worth it for the entertaining rants alone.
