Furry Fandom and Drama General

So there's been a bit of drama going on with AnthroNW, a furry con taking place in seattle (which if you're aware is where RainFurrest took place). Tl;dr, it's registered as for profit, a CNN crew was invited to film this first year con, and apparently it was run by those with a religious background.

UPDATE: IT'S GOING AS WELL AS YOU'D EXPECT FOR A SEATTLE FURCON:

I could be wrong, but so far I haven’t seen any proof of a diaper in the ball pit, just rumors.

There doesn't need to be proof.. It's the law of ball pits. Think of it like Godwin's law, only for diapers in ball pits. Doesn't matter if the diaper is on a child or a grown ass man in a fursuit.
The proof makes it funnier.

One account I'd keep an eye on to watch for further drama is a new account that's popped up recently called @FandomWatchdogs. It has a noble intent, trying to be the millionth "furry police" account on the internet. While it's followed list is somewhat sketchy....

...and while they're clearly not apolitical...

....it does seem to be a good account for starting or spreading drama, and one of their tweets has gotten a bunch of RTs from furries, about a sex offender wanting to go to a con:

Either way, I'd keep my eyes on this account, especially if they swerve in a completely political direction or they callout the wrong person (which seems to happen with these accounts all the time) and drama ends up blowing up.

If all the combined reports over the past twenty or so years the media has been aware of furries haven't killed the fandom yet I don't see why anyone's getting their knickers in a twist over this. Same shit different reporter.
To be fair furries bring this on themselves and blame the media for their own issues. As long as there are specific crazy groups in the furry fandom all the media has to do is turn on the camera and the jokes write themselves, and that's not counting the fact that normies are bound to laugh at the mere idea of grown men dressing in discount mascot suits.

The only people who think that way are either not really sick at all or they are so fucked in the head they need to be in a locked ward and forced to take their meds.
It’s a pet peeve of mine that people talk bad about modern medicine. Something that has helped literally every human in the civilized world should be treated with more respect. :(
Replying to a slightly old post with this; the post-tumblr-wave furries seem to have carried over spores of the tumblr idea that mental illness is pitiable and uncontrollable, but also inconsequential in and of itself. The "only problem" with mental illness is the stigma society puts on it, for no reason in their minds. Treatment for mental health problems is seen as violence against their identities, like having to tuck your shirt is literally reaching into their soul to tear out a spark of their personality. You see the same rigmarole of chimp-puts blamed on an illness (that may not be real and just adopted to fit in), people slather each other with pity and make being mentally ill cool, the perception of the illness is softened and people make it about being shy or fidgety rather than suffering hallucinations or whatever, and soon the fashion trend of listing out your "mental illnesses" on your blog header is everywhere.

I completely agree, and this follows along with the whole "autism is a gift/superpower" thing. Rather than convincing troubled people to explore treatment, the toxicity of the Tumblr Generation and its fucked up bullshit only serves to exacerbate problems with health; mental, physical, sexual, etc. Hygiene, too.

The AnthroNW drama was fascinating to watch over the weekend because it really seemed driven by external forces that weren't actually at the convention. It also seemed to attract a lot of the "big name" SJW-types in the fandom to harp about the ties the chair had to some religious group (there were people suggesting the whole con was some sort of christian indoctrination event). I get the feeling some of the drama was manufactured outrage conducted by people formerly involved with Rainfurrest. RAIN, the group behind Rainfurrest, is desperately trying to start a Seattle-area furry con but keeps failing. AnthroNW swooped in and got theirs off the ground. These are furries, you KNOW the Rainfurrest people are going to be pissed that someone else has claimed their "territory". Better make the con sound like it's the worst thing in the world!

People who actually went seemed to have few complaints.

The only complaint I noticed was the diaper thing but the thing is, it's Seattle and the Pacific NW area is notorious in the furry fandom for being ground zero for diaperfurs (See: Sibe and Pamperchu who live in Portland)

why do you all overanalyze furry shit? yeah furries are gross n shit but that doesn't need explaining.

starting to get the feeling that most of you here are closeted furries lmao
Gee.

What gave you that impression?

Was it Power Armor talking of waiting for furfag porn he bought? Was it the multiple halals on users who regularly post in this sub? Or was it the natural attraction to drama and infighting furfags are so fond of?
