Culture Dates set for first ‘man free’ festival in Sweden - the festival if the future, where nothing can possiblie go wrong

The first man-free music event organized in response to sexual offences at concerts in Sweden will be held at the end of next summer. Tickets will be available in just two weeks, according to an announcement ironically released on International Men’s Day.
Swedish comedian Emma Knyckare came up with the idea of a man-free music festival in July after the cancellation of the Bravalla Festival amid reports of sexual assaults and allegations of rape. Back then, the comedian suggested having a “really cool festival where only non-men are welcome,” but did not imagine the support and fundraising success her idea would have.

Apart from women, the event, called Statement Festival, will also welcome non-binary and trans people, and will be held from August 31 to September 1 in Gothenburg. The date and venue of the event were disclosed on International Men’s Day – November 19.

Swedish comedian finally names her ‘man free’ festival after fundraising success
Announcing the event on their official social media accounts, the organizers said they are presenting some “more important” dates than International Men’s Day.

“We thought it was an appropriate day to talk about it – a reminder of the issues women still face from men,” Knyckare told the Local.

Some organization details are still to be figured out, such as how to prevent men from entering. Still, the creators believe that it is important to allow trans men to come as they are “exposed to violence, hate and threats based on prevailing norms in our society.”

“We do not claim that Statement Festival is the solution to the problems with the sexual violence – it’s a reaction to it,” the event’s website says, adding that its team hopes the event will “not be necessary” in the future.

Sweden has faced a wave of sexual offence allegations at popular music events. In July, the annual Bravalla Festival was cancelled due to reports of four cases of rape and 22 cases of molestation. In August, Swedish police confirmed that four teenage girls reported being raped at a festival in the town of Emmaboda, and 11 other women experienced sexual abuse there.

I just hope they'll make a festival next where refugees enter for free or some shit.

Oh, there was and it started this whole shitshow. During "We Are Stockholm" a couple of years ago a Cologne-like thing happened but it was before Cologne.
The media was initially interested, news about minors getting sexually assaulted at a free festival parents trusts sells papers and get clicks, but it was dropped when they learned that it was all kebab, specifically "unaccompanied war orphans" or whatever they were called then, I forget.

It all came out after the Cologne event and people were piiiissed so now they're reporting everything that happens everywhere and encourages everyone to file police reports on everything but I don't think there's been anything matching the initial WeAreSthlm event. At a later festival the police(!) distributed armbands for girls that said "don't molest me" or some shit, don't know what they were hoping to get out of that one... but the national police commissioner is a bumbling idiot that somehow failed his way into the police so it's no surprise.

'member when women were like "yes we can" and "i'm as good as any man" and "I am woman hear me roar"?
now it's "no i can't" and "I need safe spaces all the time" and "i am woman hear me reeee"

The difference was that during the first part, they only met white male yes men, and not Al-rapey-Patriarchy from 3rd world.

I wouldn't compare men's day to women's day in that respect. The moment you even address the existence of international men's day, you're inundated with all sorts of accusations of sexism by the press. Whether conscious or not, there's a noticeable drive to push out of social conciousness, to the point that most people don't even know that there's such a holiday.

The same cannot be said for international women's day. You will know when it's approaching, mostly because the media won't stop banging on about it's alleged importance.

In the olden days a feminist would've argued that celebrating one without the other only reinforces that men are the standard norm and women are just an inferior deviation in need of reminding everyone of their fragility and self-importance.

To be fair, I actually appreciate how blunt and petty feminism has become. Granted, the first and second wave weren't nearly as squeaky clean as society likes to promote, but I admire how third wave feminism drops the pretense and outright demands superior treatment to men without the burden of responsibility.

At least they make it easier to see what loons they are, that's for sure.
