Huh...I spent one night in a hotel in Sault Ste. Marie when I was driving through, and everyone I interacted with there acted like white trash with too many or too few chromosomes. I honestly wasn't aware that my experience was actually representative. Trying to do any basic transactional exchange ended up like this for me:

I booked the hotel in advance, and at that time I noted that I was travelling with a cat and they confirmed with me that I would be given a pet-friendly room for a small fee. When I arrived there, there was a hag behind the counter chainsmoking who was baffled and hostile when I inquired about the pet friendly status to make sure it was sorted. She eventually relented and let me bring the cat in when I argued that I had explicitly requested that and gotten approval for that, but sternly warned me not to let it "piss on the carpet."
