Maybe for people who enjoy every piece of actual content being buried by 20 pages of a bunch of morons rephrasing and parroting the same sentence as one another and showering each other with "agree" ratings. I can assure you that many users who enjoy Greer as a cow--myself included--certainly did not like the "flow" of it.
It would have taken a ludicrous amount of moderation to make the main thread passable for anyone who actually used this website more broadly and wasn't part of the weird Greer cult. The primary issue wasn't even people being "off-topic," but rather the overwhelming volume of repetitive and low-effort posts.
The main thread can continue with the relevant screencaps etc. being also posted in specific sub-threads. You want to visit his recent facebook posts? Go the facebook update thread. You want to watch it all unfold without thread jumping? Read the general thread. Why not the main general thread AND the sub-thread for specific topics and caps? You can't please everyone, but you can adjust the content to suit as many as possible and accomodate almost all preferences.
If people don't like the huge general thread - don't visit it, stick to the sub-threads and vice-versa.
If people are shitposting and 'booting low-level content, they can also post that same shit in sub-threads.
If it's confusing for new people and the huge number of pages put them off, pop up a sticky.
