There is a reason why such a double standard exists. There is a great blog post by Jim A. Donald about it. It should be noted that male hypergamy is still a problem regardless of whether female sexuality is properly controlled or not. It is just not as serious. It's a conundrum. Too early and supporting them properly is a trick, too late and you end up with a special needs person who can never take care of themselves.
