Although I'm sure promotion was an influence in him appearing in other videos, it wasn't the only reason for it necessarily. Kyle emerged onto TGWTG in 2011, which is also roughly the same time the higher-ups of the site begun to truly realize they could capitalize upon the novelty and appeal of crossover reviews. Events like the anniversary movies and MAGFest, for example, became occasions where crossovers were strongly encouraged and eventually required of the site's contributors.I recall him showing up a lot at random in other peoples videos too, I think they were trying hard to push the artsy guy for whatever reason, and it seemed to be a desperate move to me to promote the new talent to gain some traction instead of falling off like their smaller contributors, the only one coming to mind was Blockbuster something or another, but there were a lot of minor contributors to Those Guys With the Autism.
I think it was during the filming of either Suburban Knights or To Boldly Flee when Mike Michaud was basically like "hey guys, we're explicitly telling you to film crossover reviews while you're all here so you can make the site more money". And then some shady finances happened, like the site alone got the profits from these crossovers, and the reviewers were fucked unless they also filmed their own content during this time. Something like that. It's been years since I read the receipts on this so details may be off.
In any case, the overbearing presence of Kyle was a symptom of a larger problem, I think.
