Maybe Doug should have listened to the fans who were telling him that the new Nostalgia Critic was unfunny instead of telling them "fuck you, I'm going to keep doing these skits" in that one episode. Because that opening skit was horrible.

If his passive aggressive Christmas with the Kranks video is anything to go by, then I say that he will never learn anything.

Doug and Rob have both claimed in the past that despite how loud the fanbase are when they say "Stop doing the skits," that the actual money they make from skitless reviews is lower than average.
Is that because the skitless reviews are shorter and therefore they can't maximize YouTube's time-based algorithms with them, or because the reviews with skits in them are more often than not about films his fan base have been requesting for years and would gravitate towards regardless of there being skits?

Yeah I call BS because older NC reviews were around 15-20 minutes long. Same as the new shit (emphasis on "shit") with the sketches.

Doug has final say on his YouTube thumbnails, I'm guessing. In which case, someone persuasive needs badly to persuade him that there are few sights more guaranteed to disinterest any potential non-exceptional viewer than a big close-up of him screaming/gurning zanily/wackily photoshopped with a duck bill/whatever. It has marginally less dignity and appeal than jangling a bunch of keys in front of a toddler's face.

Well, that's... one way of looking at it. Yep, it must be the skits that bring in the revenue, and not the fact that the reviews they do skits for tend to be for newly released blockbusters - which, because they're hot properties and everyone's interested in them, are guaranteed to get more views and therefore more money anyway.

Either the Walker bros are just that big of morons or they're willfully bullshitting us in order to justify their vanity projects skits. Or both.

I'm going to go with either the first or third options.

Probably the first one.

At the rate he is going, can we possibly get a Walker Brothers thread? I ask because we gave one to Angry Joe and some other Channel Awesome hack though the much less talented and very autistic Coen Brothers gets are getting a free pass?

Why is he reviewing new releases? I thought his whole shtick was old movies from our childhoods

I think he expanded his schtick a bit when he revived the series however long ago that was. I don't remember the rationale he gave for it, but think it's because if he was limited to reviewing properties from the era of his own childhood he'd run out of material very soon.

And in fairness, whenever he reviews a brand-new movie it does tend to be "nostalgic" in nature (reboots, adaptations, etc), so at least there's that. IIRC there are exceptions to that rule (e.g. I think he reviewed Pixels?) but not many.

Nope. He tried to justify it with some bullshit about watching it at home was a form of nostalgia for when it was in the cinema.

Because the 10 year rule wasn't fair enough(!)

Paid promotion shilling, unfunny skit at the beginning, and a cheap Trump joke. Very bleh.

How low the morally mighty have sunk, the tightwind who can never shut up about product placement in movies is using product placement in a review of a movie. What a sellout.

In addition, Doug decides to tackle it after Mr Enter - Mr fucking Enter - beat him comprehensively to the punch. The same Mr Enter whose arselikhan of Doug and Channel Awesome is legendary - 'I'd never dream of reviewing anything that the Nostalgia Critic has already done (please please please, Doug, allow me to disinfect my tongue before rimming you please can I have a slot on Channel Awesome?').

There may be a moral here, but I really don't give a shit. Just struck me as mildly, sourly amusing.
This is Phelous' next review too.
Y'know, I thought Pan-Pizza's review of it was pretty neat. At the very least it was something literally nobody heard of.

Then Mr Enter reviewed it because he likely saw Pan's review of it and created a bandwagon because of his godawful fanbase.

And now, a year later, we've got Doug jumping on the bandwagon and Phelous following suit. At this point, the shock has completely worn off. There's nothing more to be said or joke about. It's a dead horse, but nobody wants to stop beating it.

oh no someone reviewed this movie before someone else reviewed this movie what a crime against humanity

Yeah sure Mat, because you've never had any luck with American birds (or fellas, whatever floats your boat mate) doesn't mean this isn't true.

Also I doubt it's just your voice, you know what I've found Western women really go for at the mo if your personality is not up to scratch?

FUCKING BEARDS.

Did he? I know he said there's no such thing as a British accent, which is technically correct but splitting hairs, but I've never seen that.

It was in a crossover review he did with somebody else. I remember the other host being a woman like Diamanda Hagan or Iron Liz. In the review, he pointed out that his accent wasn't British but some accent unique to some two-block wide pissing corner in the United Kingdom somewhere.
