So, the new Bayonetta was announced yesterday. As SEGA has pretty much said "Fuck Bayonetta, fuck Kamiya and fuck you", Nintendo has moneyhatted Platinum again so the game is exclusive to the Switch. Here's the teaser trailer, in all of its glory

As we all know, between "Switch exclusive" and "the game not being fucking made at all", lots of people would prefer the second option, so while reception of the news has been generally positive, it has also produced a fair share of salt.

Bayonetta wouldn't still exist without Nintendo. They received a TON of funding to make Bayonetta 2 as well as bring Bayonetta 1 over.

Money doesn't mean much when mommy and daddy probably still pay for everything, like they probably do for all the spergs here.

People are honestly bringing up 4K, lol

It just goes to show how little some people care about video games. Like it doesn't matter to them that the original publishers gave little care or thought to this series and basically left it for dead until Nintendo came along and saved it, or that by all records Bayonetta 2 on wii u was actually more successful overall than when it was released on 360/ps3 (back then these same "fans" weren't even playing the game, they were on the sidelines saying it was just another dmc clone but with titties). It doesn't matter to them that the fucking series they love is alive and well because it's another major exclusive for the switch and we all know how much your average gaymer doesn't like those Nintendo consoles god niblets.

My question to these people is how the fuck did you not see this coming? How did you not see a franchise that got its revival on the wii u and with its main character being added to Smash Bros. continue to thrive on the very next iteration of Nintendo products? The writing was on the wall. I mean don't get me wrong, I love Bayonetta 1 on pc, but it wont ever change the fact that SEGA as a company doesn't give a shit about the series anymore than they care about making quality products of their own original titles. All it really shows is that those Nintendo fans whom everyone jokes are all myopic and only care for original nintendo products could actually be just as welcoming to 3rd party titles as sony/xbox fans.

I ain't even mad about these people being indignant little shits about the upcoming title, more disappointed that they would carry on such toxic attitudes about games without showing any knowledge about why things are the way they are. It sure as fuck isn't PlatinumGames' fault, their only job is to make games for publishers. I would say your issues are with SEGA, but speaking as someone who used to be kind of a SEGA nerd long ago I can tell you they don't care if you're upset with the way they handle games.

Tough break nigga, at least you have the DMC collection

Their loss. Bayonetta 2 was great and the Switch is already worth asking price despite only being out for about 8 months. Also, why wouldn't they put it on Switch? From what I understand, Platinum has a fantastic relationship with Nintendo. They released multiple big projects on WiiU and Nintendo trusts them enough that they're one of the few companies that they allow to use their IP. Star Fox Zero may have problems, but they were still allowed to make it.

I think what these nerds miss is that Nintendo fans are a lot more interested in the stability of games than their pointless graphicsmongering. Not just stability of quality, but stability of brand, too.

Every other company but Nintendo is constantly compulsioned to be making new series and original IPs practically every day, which basically destroys any chance they have at any recognizable characters, themes or places. But Nintendo constantly and consistantly reiterates characters and location themes from previous games in the series, even if everything else in the game is completely different.

If Zelda and Mario were owned by any other company, Breath of the Wild and Osyssey would have been original IPs, would have been lost in a sea of other unproven original IPs, and eventually abandon in favor of whatever new, unique Crash Bandicoot game Nintendo put out.

Nintendo knows the value of variety in their series, recognizability of their characters, and making sure their brand roster is well-maintained. And so, when Nintendo makes or funds an original IP like Bayonetta, they make sure it's consistant and stable, so Nintendo fans love it even though it's not Mario because that's what Nintendo fans love.

Meanwhile Xbox/Ps fans get 5 new series a year, PC fans constantly have an endless internet full of indies, and every other classic company with popular series is either deader than disco or alienating their creators in favor of Pachinko machines.

Anyone who complains about good exclusives don't realize why are important for the video game market. It's because they entice people to actually buy the game in comparison to their competitors. One of the worse trends in contemporary video games is the expectation that every game must show up on all platforms and that whoever "misses" out the most is the red-headed stepchild to be mocked for simply existing. If gamers can only expect multiplatform releases with maybe slightly different graphics because of hardware and "OMG TIMED-EXCLUSIVE DLC FOR PEEEXFORE!" then consoles are only good for what are likely watered down ports of PC games. No wonder why home consoles are fading away, because as PCs become cheaper, more powerful consoles becomes less of a seller. The PS2 and Wii, the two most successful home consoles, didn't attempt to be a lite-PC.

As for me, I welcome these new exclusives. Games like:
  • Super Bomberman R
  • Project Octopath
  • Shin Megami Tensei V
  • Bayonetta 3
are what the Switch needs to thrive and be taken seriously among third-parties. By providing an environment for mid-tier (and Nintendo-funded) third-party games in an environment that discourages it, Nintendo can get companies who aren't in the massive gulf between indies and AAA games to make heterogeneous games that can sell that can't be found anywhere else. If the Switch continues to be a phenomenon this can encourage positive gaming trends in an bloated industry that so needs it.

That's not getting into the fact that Bayonetta wouldn't have sequels without Nintendo. If one game isn't enough to buy a console then shrieking about how horrible Nintendo and Platinum Games are for 3 being a Switch exclusives is not worth bitching about.

Bayonetta 2 announcement was one big salt moment a few years ago. There were salt showing most of the stages of grief. There was salt angry that Nintendo would have a very non Nintendo game. There was those denying that Bayonetta 2 was an exclusive and saying that it was a timed exclusive pointing to games like Resident Evil 4, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge and Rayman Legends being Nintendo exclusives being ported. Eventually there was port begging to the point where Kamiya told them to go ask Nintendo and ask for Mario and Zelda while you are at it.
All of the salt brought us this gem.

There was also salt from the misogyny in gaming crowd even with a Polygon reviewer lowering the score of the game.
Even when the game was released on Steam earlier this year there were still people asking for a PC port.

There will most likely be less salt this time and especially with Bayonetta herself being in Smash Bros. a third game on Nintendo is expected but we still get some salt regardless.

Ain't wrong. Every appealing game on Switch so far (and on every list of future games) is a Nintendo one, and we all know how they seem to stop caring after a few big launches, then let the console dwindle into shitty year-old PC ports and other indie crap.

Watch the real salt as BBorne 2 is a ps4 exclusive.

There's also the fact that 2 apparently lost GOTY at the same event where 3 just got announced because a women in gaming type threw a tantrum.
