Law Child abuser lectures judge on objectification of women in vidya - Can now share views with fellow prisoners

FAIRBANKS — A 37-year-old Fairbanks man who was sentenced Monday to 45 years in prison for sexually abusing a young girl under his care told the judge he was a “feminist and pacifist” who had “earnest conversations” with the girl “about gender equality and how she should be able to expect the same respect as any man.”

Shawn Thomas Weixelman was charged in July 2016 with 11 counts of felony first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and two counts of felony second-degree abuse of a minor after investigators determined he abused the girl for six years, when she was between the ages of 8 and 14.

The girl’s mother told the court, at the sentencing hearing, that she became ill, needing a year to recover. So she sent the girl to Fairbanks to live with Weixelman.

After her recovery, she left the girl with Weixelman because she “seemed to be doing well,” but later became concerned when the girl told her she was “hearing voices” and had “intrusive thoughts of hurting herself.” The girl was put on medication and returned to the Lower 48 to live with her mother. In May 2016, she confided that Weixelman had been sexually abusing her. The girl’s mother told the court Weixelman had a history of “relentless emotional manipulation and gaslighting” but she “didn’t think he’d do this to a child.”

The girl said she suffers from severe PTSD because of Weixelman’s abuse.

“I will have to carry the weight of what he did for the rest of my life. And I will have to deal with it,” the girl said.

Weixelman told the court he hadn’t realized that his actions were wrong until he and the girl had a conversation in which “she expressed regret that we had done these things,” and “it really just kind of shattered my perception about the way that I had manifested my love.”

Weixelman said he worries about the girl’s ability to trust people, especially men.

“I know that it was incredibly difficult for her. It’s hard for me, because, of course, I’m kind of in a terrible situation,” Weixelman said.

“I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to review my demo reel or my resume, but I am an internationally award winning concept artist,” Weixelman said, adding he felt he could help prisoners learn to treat women with more respect.

“Far too often, both science fiction and fantasy objectify women. It’s something, actually, that nerds and prison inmates have in common. I feel like I have a unique ability to bring the concept of gender equality into the way they think about the future,” Weixelman said.

Calling Weixelman’s actions “abhorrent,” Blankenship sentenced him to 55 years with 10 suspended, leaving an active sentence of 45 year. Weixelman will serve 15 years of probation upon his release. He may be eligible for discretionary parole after serving 25 percent of his active time, but that decision will be made by the Department of Corrections.

Apparently 13-19 years max for repeated rape of a minor. Assuming it ever gets to court :optimistic::optimistic::optimistic:

If so, he definitely talked himself into that 45 year sentence with the shocking gall and cluelessness of lecturing the entire court on morality while he was being sentenced for being a horrifying monster of a person.

I think that statement was relating to the maximum sentence for rape in the UK.
Someone posted a list in the hate speech thread wich indicated that the maximum sentence for hurting someone's feelings online was actually slightly harsher than for actual IRL rape of a minor.

Well, this case is in Fairbanks, Alaska.

For comparison, Nick Bate got 40 years in Pennsylvania.

What is, generally/hypothetically speaking, the reasoning behind suspending a big chunk of the sentence is a case like this? Token mercy to stave off appeals?

I wouldn't call 10 years out of a 55 year sentence a huge chunk, especially when the state is Alaska. The dude is 37, the sentence is 45 years, so he will be 82 years old before he even gets into the suspended sentence part.

I would wager he isn't going to live that long.

I don't know what's stupider: leaving your child with a known abuser or virtue signalling in attempt to avoid jail time.

Leave child with known abuser.

Virtue signalling in an idiotic attempt to avoid jailtime makes you look like an idiot. Leaving a child in the hands of a known abuser screws up that child, not to mention leaves you with having to deal with the fallout of the kid's abuse (even if you don't care about the kid, you probably do care about public backlash, if only how it negatively affects you).

This guy is such a cringelord. I feel like I'm reading a shitty pitch from the 90s during the previews of a direct-to-video movie that tries to sell an array of generic ideas as "unique concepts".

Yep, 14-19 years is in Britbongistan. Best of it all is that even if a kiddie diddler gets the max 19 years, they'll only serve half of the sentence at the most before being let out (unless they murder a few people while inside). Yay, justice!

FWIW: Ted Bundy tried to blame pornography for his murder spree and became a minor celebrity among the anti-porn crusaders, even though it was clear he was just saying anything he thought would get him enough sympathy to avoid the electric chair.

When you got nothing to lose, what's the harm in speaking your mind?

A few people in front of Roland Freisler called him names right back, it's not like he was about to hang them any less dead...

"Weixelman said, adding he felt he could help prisoners learn to treat women with more respect."

Letting you lecture another inmate would be a death sentence. They don't take to kindly to child rapists.
Also, what is it with male feminists and being disgusting creeps?

He had a lot to lose. Expressing anything resembling remorse would have helped a lot. They probably jacked up his sentence by a lot of years more than he'd have got just by shutting the fuck up.

Honestly, I hope someone does a follow up because there’s no way he isn’t either brutally assaulted or murdered, if he’s dumb enough to reject protective custody so he can teach social justice to other inmates.
And since he lectured the courtroom on it, he might just be that stupid.
