Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Kylo was holding back in TFA though, he wanted her to join him so he could train her. Plus while he's powerful he's still pretty young and inexperienced, not to mention he literally is on the maturity level of a dumb 15 year-old edgelord.

When Rey went up against Snoke she pretty rightfully got her ass handed to her and only survived because Kylo said fuck that to killing her and sabered Snoke instead.

I don't really think ray is the problem their's a pretty clever contrast between herself and luke as protagonists and her toughness makes sense as a desert scavanger. The problem is script bad pacing decisions have to have her operate at a power level she shouldnt really have, she has to fight a battle hardened Dark side user to the death at the end of the first film with no formal training because it's 'dramatic' in contrast to luke whose at least a talented novice with a saber (and Vader is holding back) in his first duel. They keep putting her in situations where she's totally fucked but they can't actually kill her or have her rescued because shes the protagonist so ultimatly she has to somehow get out of the imperial throne room with two 'Sith' lords and a fucktoon of guards-something which would be tricky for a jedi master. The whole "luke won't train her" really discredited her since now their's litterally no reason she should be able to take kylo wren and she's in no emotional state to even try.

I swear to YHWH, if you type "their's" one more time, I will hunt down your family.

No, the end is meant to say that everyone can be a hero and that the Force is not just in the Jedi or the Skywalkers or something like that. Hence the emphasis on Rey being a Mary Sue nobody who came from nowhere, the last lightsaber-wielding Skywalker being the big bad now (gotta break off with the past), and the ending scene with the slave kid pretending to have a lightsaber.
Basically the movie went "fuck the mythology, we Antifa now!" when it always should have been about Luke passing the torch to the next generation of Skywalkers, the lineage around which the whole saga was centered.

There's two problems I have with this.

1) Rey isn't the nobody they claim she is. Out of everyone who is Force sensitive in the Galaxy, she's the one person the Force is buffing up to champion the light. She's not like everyone else, she's the one getting special treatment in order to be the hero. She might not have a prophesy like Anakin did, but she's still a chosen one.

And of course, she's written like a bad fanfic character. It's like they couldn't decide if she was meant to be the Luke, Leia or Han so they just threw them all in a blender. She lacks any real personality of her own, which is a big difference from the original trilogy. The scripts understood who the characters were supposed to be, and the cast broke through the wooden dialogue to breath life into their roles. Alex from Last Starfighter feels more like a Star Wars character than Rey does, since the writing had a very strong grasp of who he was supposed to be. He's New Hope Luke minus the Force, the everyman who dreams of bigger things outside of his immediate surroundings. The writers at Disney don't understand who Rey is, just the things they want her to be. Big difference.

2) The ending reignites the legend of Luke Skywalker throughout the galaxy. The kids at the end aren't pretending to be Rey, Poe or Finn, they want to be Luke. It's almost hilarious when you really think about it, as even though the new cast are being presented as the heroes of this story people still want the old cast.

This is the “The Empire Strikes Back” movie in the new trilogy. Nobody told stories about Luke until “The Return of the Jedi” and that was C-3Po talking to a bunch of Ewoks.

I actually like Rey since she's this white trash girl who's been thrown into this crazy bullshit and still hasnt figured shit out yet (especially since in TLJ she got a pretty rude awakening that people she idolized are still people and aren't always good and people she hated aren't completely awful either). I can see why people don't like her, but she probably my favorite after Kylo. Plus Luke fucking with her was pretty great, as was her unintentionally pissing off the fish nuns.

I'm interested to see where she'll go in 9 since I feel like she still has compassion for Kylo even if she rejects his views, especially since she saw him kill his Master to save her.

Out of context for the reasons for Kylo going to the darkside, I honestly do like how Kylo Ren is handled in this film. You can still tell he is confused and being pulled every which way in which he says,"Fuck It!" and goes his own way. Though now it is almost comical that The First Order is now being led by a pissed off angst y teen that now doesn't have any figures to tell him how to vent his frustrations.

That is about the only few things I generally liked about this film aside from the music and visuals.

That's part of why I want to see Hux take over ultimately. I feel like Kylo will pretty quickly realize he's a dumb manchild who has no idea what the fuck he's doing and either willingly hand shit off to Hux, or Hux will go in while he's sleeping, toss him in a room with a ysalamir, and take over by force. The military seems to respect Hux more anyway

Remember Phasma? What ever happened to that?

You'd think with Star Wars being such a big brand name that Disney would at least hire competent writers to do the big sequel trilogy.
I think that the ST needed someone like George Lucas, a visionary that can lay out the basic overarching storyline while giving the movies a more consistent tone. You can still have different directors, but having someone like Lucas could prevent the plots from feeling like they've been made up as they went along.

With The Force Awakens, JJ Abrams set up numerous potential plot points, such as Rey's lineage and Snoke's backstory, that would have been addressed in the sequels. However, Rian Johnson made Rey a nobody (something that just adds more fuel to the belief that she's a borderline Mary Sue) and didn't even attempt to explain who Snoke was before having him die like a bitch, all in the name of trying to subvert expectations. Now that Abrams is set to return to direct Episode 9, who knows how he'll handle some of the "messes" The Last Jedi made.

I still liked those movies, but the new trilogy just feels disjointed and inconsistent.

I can't even begrudge Johnson for jettisoning Abrams' "mystery boxes." I watched Lost and I know damn well that Abrams sets these things up with no plan and then kicks the can to whoever comes next.

They're beyond salvaging at this point. Whatever build up there was in the first movie was destroyed in the second. There is literally no way this trilogy will end well.

$100 says the next film is a big spherical doomsday weapon built by the Empire First Order that the Rebels Resistance needs to strategically blow up while Rey and Kylo Ren are onboard.
