Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

But one of the villains is named Horse Cock because he waves around a severed horse cock. How can you not like that?

fuck sake i guess we should be grateful ennis doesnt have the friends and connections dan harmon has, or horse cock woulda become a forced meme like pickle rick.

In seriousness though, while I thoroughly enjoy both grim and dark edgy shit and pitch black comedy, trying to do a series with both just doesnt work unless you put a fucktunne of distance between the two (i.e. what warhammer 40k does, with "silly" narratives never mixing with the "serious" ones) and is just fucking obnoxiously tedious when mixed with 13 year old "LOL SWEARING LOL BLOOD LOL RAPE LOL!" shit.

I know this is somewhat :offtopic:, but I think what would help save this industry is a few things.

1. Start adjusting your comic lines over towards the graphic novels. Most people aren't going to want to dick around with having to go to a store 6-12 weeks/months in a row for a story they may not like while going to wait to release only 1 or 2 graphic novels in an arc would better grab the less dedicated readers, better attempt to sell the less popular stories, and save on costs overall for the readers.
2. Make the comic books more collectible. This sort of pairs with 1. going to make graphic novels with a special option for collectors to buy the books in individual issues with perhaps making it exclusive with only 5-10k per issue in the book to make it the more premium option.
3. Get back to the basics. Most of the folks that might be interested in comics usually have their exposure to them through films and cartoons, so bring those characters to the books to get them buying as it alienates a large consumer base if they try to buy those books only to find out they are cheap recolors of the heroes they like.
4. Vet the twitter accounts of writers. Nothing can tank your business faster than hostile staff so apply penalties towards them or curate their public twitter so that these autistic fights cannot occur in the first place.

This whole thing reminds me of Gamergate on so many levels.
Karl Marx said:
Hegel remarks somewhere that all great world-historic facts and personages appear, so to speak, twice. He forgot to add: the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce.
Or perhaps it should be "First as farce, then as farcier" in this scenario.

Will Ramon ever understand that's the funny part? You've got someone like Mark Waid A-logging a handful of people making Youtube videos leafing through a comic book in their house/car.

These retards in the comic book industry feel threatened by nobodies who don't even issue threats.

Good.

That America comic By Gabby Rivera is so bad. She's using amigx instead of amigo?

Imani's hair looks like it was scribbled on by a six year old in MS Paint. And the whole thing is just cringeworthy. No wonder it was cancelled. I guess she fit all the boxes they wanted to check at the time. But like all of this SJW pandering it doesn't make money. The people they are pandering to aren't buying these books and no one else is either.

Rivera pretty much ruined America as a whole for me. Then again, I never read any of the ccomics before her solo series.

So this is just talking about monthly comic sales in comic stores? Any comic store still around is a chain that is overpriced as shit.

If you go to any bookstore, online or retail, all the comics are in trade form. This is pretty much just Marvel and it's clingers going full SJW anywho. Most shitty chain bookstores are gone, why would comic book chains be any different?

There's already been some fucking spectacular meltdowns from this shit already. Many of them are fucking comic gold.

Here's one of my favorites:

Former Marvel employee.
Jesus that one particular stupid meltdown. Also if it's actually Alex de Campi's twitter, well first she should stop twitter and write more comics she is far better at that. And second, she is mostly a Image/TokyoPop/Dark Horse (which technically is owned by marvel, sure) writer and did some DC job (a wonder woman two-issue story). But I do not remember her ever working at Marvel proper. Also i mostly remember her from her work in the 2000s, pretty sure she mostly do video work since the 10s. I stopped following Comics in late 2012 so she may be writing again for all i know.

But that's not what disturb me the most. Is she actually bitching that Marvel give a total new comer to the industry (who happen to be queer) her own C-LIST hero series to write?
Like jesus, C-LIST??? How dare they not give a gay poc their main franchise on a silver plater.

What list were Swamp Thing, Sandman and Animal Man in when they were given to already confirmed young talented writers Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and Grant Morrison in the 80s, so they can prove themselves before getting a bigger title?
Because the industry couldn't give those white men better than C-List when they started working for them but surely if it's a QUEER WOMAN OF COLOR she obviously doesn't deserve to prove herself as a writer.

Those fuckers at Marvel only giving a totally unproven writer a c-list to ruin for 10+ issues, what a bunch of fucking monsters. Protip: next time you select a gay person to write for a gay character make sure she is mildly talented as a comic book writer first (or you know interested in that art because i have the feeling that wasn't really the case beside the paycheck).

I have read America and outside the good quality of the art, the book is baaaaaaaaad. Mostly terrible writing.

But hey that those male fuckers at marvel who gave her a chance that are to blame for her failure to deliver, they should have given her a more prestigious character to ruin.

Didn’t gamergate “end” years ago and Zoe Quinn is now more successful than any progamergater? Is this what you guys have to latch on to in order to try to feel better?
It would of ended but autist can't let go of the corpse.

Ponygate when?
After Furrygate runs its course we can have an autistic gate on a horse cartoon.

For those who are wondering when these fucking things are going to stop happening, I do have some good news:

The fact that these events are happening in smaller and smaller time-cycles (as opposed to the Autism Holy War's over-a-year-tard wrangling session) is actually evidence that this crap is gradually dying down - the general setup suggests that people took more stock of what does (and doesn't) work in such a situation, and, correspondingly, have learned the all-important lesson that the ideologue brigade tends to fuck itself over with laughable frequency and doesn't really need to be fought directly.

Sadly, this means that we're likely to see the practice die off long before we get to Ponygate, Gateygate, or gods help us, Sonicgate. I'm sorry. :(

Good.
Is Ramon a writer? Or just some guy with Alzheimer's?

Before facebook and twitter, we lived in a world where creators and businesspeople just kind of accepted that their product would receive criticism and it was their job to earn the public's money. Now if you say comics are shitty you'll actually get senior writers and editors calling you names, threatening you, and insisting that they're owed your money because they have the correct opinions.
