The motive behind this heinous crime was money and the gang did not find it at the couple's house, so they raped and killed them.
A Brazillian gang of thugs tortured and brutally murdered a couple before allegedly eating one of the victim's body parts after vandalizing their home, police have reported.
Cristina Amaral's body was found decayed and buried in a shallow grave alongside her husband Juvenal, 57, in the back garden of their Camaçari, Bahia home on January 9th.

Forensic experts pointed out that Juvenal was assaulted and stabbed to death. The police further disclosed that he was also forced to watch his wife getting raped in front of his own eyes by the assailants.

The experts further revealed how Amaral suffered grisly injuries at the hands of her killers before being raped and beheaded.
According to detectives investigating the case, the thugs had held the couple hostage for 24 hours and had sexually assaulted Amaral, 44, after they were unable to find the money in the couple's home. "We believe the accused broke into the couple’s house on Friday, 5th January after learning that the Amaral’s had attained some funds," the investigators revealed.
Cristina Amaral was said to have been raped in front of her husband before they were both murdered.
The couple's murder plan was hatched after the grandmother of one of the suspects, who worked as a domestic help in their house, told her grandson that the couple had won a recent compensation claim of 70,000 reais (£15,000/$21,442). The grandmother has not been implicated in the crime.
Detective Maria Tereza Santos, head of homicide division told a news channel that the couple, Juvenal and Amaral, ‘were victims of barbarism and cannibalism.’
The five males, three of them teenagers, (half-blurred) and Daniel Neves, (3rd from left) and Carlos Neres, (2nd from right) had reportedly targeted the couple for money.
"Internal organs, including the ovaries and fallopian tubes, had been ripped out of the female’s body and other body parts are missing. There is no indication of where these organs are. We found that soft tissue had been deliberately cut and sliced from the bones of the victims. We are also investigating whether consumption took place while the victims were still alive," she told Focus On News.
"Forensic experts have not conclusively proved the accused ate parts of their victims, but the evidence is pointing to this fact," Detective Santos added further.
The shallow grave dug behind the couple's home, where Amaral's body was discovered.
Detective Santos also divulged the details of how Juvenal was killed. "Amaral's husband was also viciously tortured. The killers allegedly sliced open his back with a knife while he was alive. The suspects confessed that they hung their victims before they died and beheaded the wife," she added further.
Suspects Daniel Santos Neves, 29 and Carlos Alberto Neres, 25, were arrested along with three teenagers aged 13, 14 and 16 after an anonymous tip-off was given. When the gang was caught, police found a 12-gauge shotgun, a pistol, and a car in their custody, that the police reckon, belonged to the couple.

"The teenage grandson, apparently knew the routine of the victims and this was a premeditated crime," said Detective Santos.
"It appears the suspects set out to rape, kill and we believe eat the victims as part of some sort of depraved ritual," she added further.
The two adults of the gang have been charged with robbery, rape, torture, murder, illegal possession of weapons, corruption of minors and suspected cannibalism while the teenagers have been charged with rape and robbery.
A 12-gauge shotgun and pistol was found in the gang's possession.
The twin murders have rattled the city, some 1000 miles away from Rio De Janeiro who are left wondering what could have led the gang to commit such a vicious crime.
"Everyone is shocked and appalled by the vicious and senseless killing of a couple who lived a quiet life in the neighborhood and who was known as decent upstanding individuals," Detective Santos expressed.
"The families of the victims are still reeling from the untimely and cruel nature of their deaths and horrified at the possibility that their parents’ body parts were eaten in this barbaric crime," she added further.
