It's disgusting how he believes that the only way someone can be successful is by lucking into opportunities that he didn't have. Better support, knowing the right people, "able-bodied privilege", not running into assholes who discriminate against them at every turn. His example of success is a company that lucked its way into a contract with Facebook. Fuck all the years of hard work that they put into creating that business and bidding for that contract: nah, they just got lucky. And if he just keeps on keeping on -- putting almost zero hard work in and angling for a lucky break -- he will get one eventually; just you wait and see.

The Russ-approved path to success is basically just playing the lottery.

Elliott Rodger's was literally the lottery, if you read his crazed manifesto (highly recommended; he's got a lot in common with Russ, although the big difference is that Rodger never once initiated contact with women).

ER is living proof that opportunity doesn't mean much if you're a hollow lunatic. His dad was a very successful 2nd unit director, his parents provided for all his needs, he wasn't deformed or disfigured, etc.

He just sucked. Seriously, even in his manifesto he basically admits that all he did was play WoW and wander around, wallowing in self-pity. He had not interests, no hobbies, no real defining qualities. He was barely there but somehow thought he was owed a beautiful white girlfriend.

Sounds familiar...

You know one of the really odd things about Russ is that he doesn’t seem to have any interest in video games. Most guys his age and esp guys his age that are disabled play tons of video games - it was a way to socialize without anyone knowing you are disabled and can be done from home. But I think that’s why they never appealed to Russ, how would anyone know he deserved special treatment and rules bender to suit him in a mmorpg?

It just adds to the weird vibe that Russ is a nerd transported from a 1980s movie - with his way of dressing, his wooing techniques. I swear the outdated g-rated movies Russ was allowed to watch in his strict Mormon home seriously warped his worldview.

His way of dressing is especially funny, because a fedora would actually be a step up. It all stems from the whole like "real man"/nice guy sort of lack of a male role model thing where they inherit grandpa's pocketwatch and his suit and hat, and think that's what makes a "man" or something because they never knew him or how he acted, but he looked and dressed like Humphrey Bogart so they think that's basically what they are when they dress that way or something. Theyre always nerds and immasculine dudes and that's why.

Pretend you're Russ. Play video games with a bunch of loser nerds? Or woo hot 9/10 models on Instagram? The choice is pretty obvious. I mean, nobody ever got laid playing video games.

...of course, Russ never got laid by creeping on IG models, either, but that's beside the point

Plus video games are kinda expensive. $40 can go a long way when you're venmoing $1 to women online.

Yeah, I guess this is why the saying clothes don’t make the man comes from. People forget how hardass life was for everyone at the turn of the century (when the Bogart generation were kids). Most of those old guys were better examples of manhood at 10 years of age than doofuses imitating their clothing are at 30. It was about grooming and self-care/respect that made those clothes look so damn good on those men.

My grandfather immigrated from Europe at 14. He worked on the docks of NYC harbor his whole life, which was hard damn work, straight out of On The Waterfront stuff. But he changed into a suit at the beginning and end of each long day or night of work to ride the train, because you didn’t go into public looking dirty or poorly dressed unless you couldn’t help it. He was also tough as nails, very fit and kept himself immaculately clean. Guys like him always could pull of wearing a suit because it was about self respect and pride. Compare that to Russ or a typical fedora wearing fat ass - that’s why a poorly fitting suit in those fools seems extra funny and wrong.

Grant was easy on the eyes and following the trend rather than leading it in this picture. Sometimes I wonder if this is what hipsters are shooting for and missing when they emulate older fashion trends.

I wonder what Russell would think if someone suggested he take better care of himself using this picture as a reference. Yannow, people would notice the MS less if he took more pride in his appearance.

OT Cary Grant ❤️
I’d also add that Cary Grant (Archie Leech) epitomized the type of man I was talking about. Hard working class background, survived the blitz, known as a consummate gentleman/amazing husband and father, always immaculate in personal appearance, dude was even one of the early users/supporters of LSD.

Famous heiress Barbara Hutton said of all her many husbands Cary Grant was the only one who actually loved her and didn’t give a toss about her fortune

It’s worth reading about him if you have the time, very impressive man

I love the irony of his comments, "maybe disabilities are different?"

That's right Russhole, they are and others have it a lot worse and don't make as big a fuss as you do!

It’s funny because it’s not he was being compared to the man born with no fucking arms & legs who’s happy and successful, the person pointed out other people with Russ’s exact disability who managed to achieve love, careers, family, etc... but somehow it’s still not at all comparable.

Russ had a family who loved and cared for him, even paid for him to spend five years at a career college that should have taken two, which is way more than lots of kids get. You have to wonder what the hell it would take for Russ to define as supportive.

I’m assuming unless his parents fund all his lolsuits full time and start praising him as an inspiring hero for the disabled and a legal genius standing beside Darrow they are ableist Nazis holding him back.

Elliot Rodgers was a much better writer than Russell too.

Infinite Monkey Theorem though.

Do you know what he needs? A makeover.

Obviously. They're not 10s.

You know, that's a very interesting point. Can one of our Thread Mormons clarify, are vidya games discouraged and/or forbidden in Mormon households? It's possible he never grew up with an Atari 2600/C-64/NES/SNES/Genesis etc.

That's the only thing I could think of why Russel wouldn't be all over an activity that takes very little effort to become skilled at, and as you pointed out no one knows you are deformed IRL? Even if he sucked at action games, complete literal retards have been known to rock top-tier characters in uberguilds in World of Warcraft.

Rus is posting thankful stuff so expect some rage soon

Ha! Not only does he like his own posts he laughs at them too, but with ha!, because that laughing emoji is Satan incarnate only there to mock him.

This is the first post I recall that he was thankful for something that wasn’t about how awesome and amazing he was. But what’s that about being thankful for family he mentioned in his post ?

I’ve never heard him do anything but complain about the “unsupportive” family who adopted, raised him, got him medical care, paid for his college, didn’t disown him after multiple ridiculous public humiliations he subjected the family name too, etc... nope can’t recall one kind word

Not a Mormon specifically, but I do know from experience that religious households in general can be (but aren't always, obviously) discouraging of vidya, and technology use in general, especially with kids. Of course, parents monitoring/limiting use in a way that builds healthy habits for their kids is one thing, but I remember a lot of friends who didn't have any gaming consoles, weren't allowed to even have a Tamagotchi or watch Disney Channel, and weren't allowed to play even "educational" computer games. My family wasn't like that, and I remember my parents would sometimes catch flack from the other parents in our religious community as a result.

Again, IANAM, but I have a feeling Mormons would have similar values to the religious community I grew up in, and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if his family was the kind that also severely limited/discouraged recreational use of technology. And, if Rusty's aversion to alcohol and staunch belief in the "by your fruits" verse is anything to go by, it would be a value that remains instilled in him even now.

Depends entirely on the household. General church leadership advises moderation in media use and avoiding violent and sexual content, and some families take that much stricter than others. Probably the most common media rule you'll find in US Mormon families is "no R-rated films."
Meanwhile, you get Mormons like Sandy Petersen involved in games like Doom and Call of Cthulhu and Orson Scott Card writing a book where a kid has a tablet on his lap with a flappy dong on the screen. So yeah, there's a variety.
