It actually makes more sense if you aren't familiar with the book and have no idea what she's talking about or the context in which she's using it. Like, once you know about what she's talking about, the dig falls apart. So an Ask Alice is the author of the book? Someone who's read it? I thought she meant like the author of a self-help column or something. Maybe that's right, and she actually hasn't read more than the cliffnotes for this seemingly hundred-page book.
She can consume everything before her, so long as it isn't written text. That shit just sits on the shelf next to her lettuce and journal of diet plans. But it's visible evidence of her verbosity, guise! For a writer, she probably goes to the gym more often than she goes to her book club.
