Yes, because people who talk massive shit then immediately back down when confronted with a real response are not cowards. Even though Phil has a documented history of doing just that. Or when they talk shit but avoid leaving their little echo chamber because they know they'll get shit on in return.
I also like his "argumentation":

So he implies that he reached the pinnacle of being ridiculed, that "we" will spin everything like it fits us no matter what Phil says and that "we" construct things out of thin air to hate on Phil (even so the escort-lady was not a product of haters but what does he know). Phil ... why do you challenge haters to do even worse things? This is a very bad idea. There are people out there who will do that... like some of your fans, buddy.

First off: Appeal to intelligence. I don't give a flying fuck if Phil things I'm stupid because he says so. Nobody should. He says people are stupid because they buy stuff from Nintendo, they are stupid because they support other streamers or watch specific youtubers. People are stupid fucks because they win against him in a fighting game. It doesn't matter what you do to Phil (except giving him money), it will be wrong and you're stupid.

Then let's assume he is no coward. So what? Does it make his life easier by jumping down a cliff? If you can prevent harm: Prevent it. Phil tries this from time to time, with shitty methods (spinning narratives, lots of lies, more name-calling because he prevents harm in the completely false direction). The best for a company/business is to have a positive image. I would imagine Phil would agree (BUT THE DETRACTORS) but he chooses the worst methods to create a positive position.
Detractors have not wrote his awful tweets. He did.
