I've definitely noticed this too. Between every patreon account I've been involved with, his is the most extreme with short-term support.

These are what normal Patreon stats look like:

Note: The guy below hid their total earnings back in August which is why the green line stops short.

As you can see everyone has at least a little loss towards the end of the month, but good projects still have a clear, upward trend in spite of this. Meanwhile Alex has never been truly stable (no doubt because the parent's of his tween fandom realize what their kids are really doing with their cash and cancel the transaction before the month's over). Now we sit back and watch as the numbers falls, dragging what's left of Alex's professionalism and sanity along with it.
could this be the end of alex and his career forever? will he ever get the support he wants? will his code ever be deciphered by the world's best cryptologists in time before the poison sets in on the 8 year old in his basement?

find out in the next episode of yandere ball GT

When I estimated that the game would be finished in 2019, I was imagining a scenario where every single feature in the game would only take 2 weeks to implement. As time went on, I realized that there are many features that will take longer than 2 weeks to implement. It was foolish of me to attempt to calculate the game's release date by simply counting the number of remaining features and multiplying that number by 2 weeks.

I want to see this quote on a gag slide during a GDC talk.

2) Implement 100+ scripted events involving rivals interacting with Senpai and rivals having their own side-stories. Release the game sometime in 2021.

Welcome to game development. Take your complimentary Lua interpreter from the stack by the door. You’re here forever.

It's strange... would anyone ACTUALLY be bothered if Alex changed Ayano from being a "super-edgy-emotionless-freak" to someone with an actual personality?

He's always pointing to the incident with the Mei tri-tails as proof that no one wants him to change characters who have been in the game for a long time, but first of all, only a small number of people actually cared about that, and secondly, those tri-tails were WORSE than what Mei had before.

I don't think the fanbase as a whole would mind if Ayano changed. If anything, they should be glad that the main character is finally interesting!

Even if personalities and designs can't be changed, why can't names be changed? People would take the game much more seriously if Alex just went ahead and changed all of their cringey Google translate names. In fact, I'm not really sure WHY he gave them cringey names in the first place - is it so incredibly hard to find out actual Japanese names?

Yeah, the bulk of the fanbase pretty much agrees with whatever Alex wants to do, which is why it's incredibly unhelpful for him to make certain polls that determine the outcome of how he develops the game. Your average teen doesn't know shit about managing the development of a game, why ask them to make these decisions they know nothing about? They'll just vote for whatever sounds cool or whatever Alex seems to like best. They shouldn't do your job, Alex, and if you're that unsure of your decisions, go watch some videos made by game developers about how to manage a project like this.

But back to the point, he could do nearly anything he'd want to do and probably just get a mild groaning from the fanbase, if anything.

You know, I was thinking about this the other day. He always complains that his fans' interest would wane if he were to ever do anything but post new gameplay updates each month. I don't think that's necessarily true—I think they're just craving a progress report from their Devpai.

He'd probably be able to get away with spending an extended period of time studying game design patterns and state machines if he were to then present biannual reports on what he learned. (It could be similar to what Egoraptor did with Sequelitis.) Same with refactoring the code and explaining in-depth about how his code was bad and how the updates improved things. He loves explaining shit in way too much detail to come off as a "genius", so it'd be a win-win-win: he'd grow as a developer, his fans would be placated and would give him his much-needed asspats, and the game would get (slightly) better.

That's the most realistic route I could see him taking, rather than giving away his baby to another developer.

(Never gonna happen though. He's going to be stuck on this until the heat death of the universe.)

If anything, I find the idea of a “Hitman” style game except with actual characters and the same environment throughout to be pretty interesting, especially if your choices drastically affect the environment after each kill.

Yan Sim is attempting to do this, but it’s too focused on the characters and story and not enough on gameplay. That’s why Osana is taking so long - you SHOULDN’T write so much story and dialogue in a STEALTH GAME. It takes a LOT of animations and voice acting for that. It’s not like the events add so much to the game - you’re literally stuck listening to the exact same characters talk for minutes on end every day, with one character being switched out every five days. The befriend / betray method is far more interesting than these events, but it’s going to take a LOT of work before that happens.

Basically, all of Alex’s work is based on characters and lore, not on the damn gameplay. He should’ve made a visual novel if he wanted it like this. Frankly, the idea of a Yandere Sim visual novel isn’t that bad since it might actually get finished.
