Asterios' response includes the following "Plaintiff's allegations that the statements are false borders on frivolous", then cites a case, Almeciga v. Ctr. For Inv. Rep. Inc., and explains "Plaintiff's counsel in this action represented plaintiff who was sanctioned for perpetrating a fraud on the court by pressing allegations she knew to be false".
Asterios' lawyer cited another case by Dogbite Landau, where his client was fined for lying, and the judge had an 80 page scathing discussion of how unethical Landau was being.
Could an actual legally experienced person comment? Because to me as a lay person that sounds like holy fucking shit, shots fired.

Another legal question: Setting aside the question whether or not Maddox would drop the suit (highly unlikely, to put it charitably), is it possible that this could reach a point where it can't be dropped?

I believe if it gets beyond the filing for dismissal - or if one or more defendants make a countersuit - the ability to drop it is no longer in George's options.

This. None of the defendants have filed counterclaims, although they still could at this point. I personally think they should sue him for being bald. Considering a New York judge recently decided you can be sued for $6.7 million dollars for removing vandalism, maybe it would even work.
