Financially they're not doing badly. They're not as rich as they used to be, but they're not short. The main reason they don't have as much power is, basically, the Internet. It means that all the shady shit they do is out in the open. I think you'd be hard pressed these days to find someone outside of the cult who doesn't think it's bad news.

Their membership includes a lot of what they call "whales," i.e. very wealthy people who can regularly be hit up for donations in the millions. Cruise is the most famous, but by no means the biggest. These people always get the red carpet treatment so they'll keep giving.

Yeah, they have a high income with low overheads. They buy their property (usually prestigious buildings in prominent locations) outright with donations from members, then they hit members up for donations for maintenance, but labour is carried out by Scientology staff paid literally pennies a day. If they sell a property, the money goes right back into the Church. Then there's the money they make from services and study materials, which cost very little (again, slave labour, all done in-house) but cost thousands.

The tax situation in Britain is interesting. Here, the Church isn't considered a charity for obvious reasons, so it's registered at an address in New South Wales. Not even a Scientology address - it's just some rando who's bemused by the whole thing.

I actually feel sorry for this woman.

She's undeniably mentally ill in a severe way.

Call me a bleeding heart, but after I realized I had problems that led me to seek mental health treatment and emerged a better person for it, I developed a profound sympathy for the mentally damaged.

Granted, her antics are hilarious, but they are also obvious displays of a diseased mind and while she may think we are monsters, I'd rather see her psychological issues treated.

I find it quite hard to laugh at the skitzocows in general for much this reason - most cows' failings are heavily, if not completely, due to their shitty personalities - they could, if they really tried, make something of themselves. You can't really say that of someone like Dana here. That being said, I do find them absolutely fascinating, so I don't think I'm going to look away any time soon.
