Unless I missed it, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Doug's earlier encounter with Batman Forever. He won a Rifftrax contest and was able to record a commentary track for Batman Forever that was actually promoted by the Rifftrax crew: https://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax-presents-batman-forever

I was a fan of the Nostalgia Critic way back in 2009 and I somewhat remember some details on this. IIRC there was a contest and people had to vote, like you said. All his fans voted in an overwhelming number and that got them the gig.
