Oh my god. That picture stresses me out. OK, let's do a quick rundown:
1) shade structure not covering dining table
2) shade structure not covering kitchen area
3) it's hard to tell from the lighting, but if the shade structure is being held in place by fence posts of that height not reinforced with properly driven rebar, dude it's going to fall in the next windstorm.
I've only seen fenceposts alone (sans rebar reinforcement) to secure trash fences- something lightweight and air porous, with fenceposts every 2 meters at most. And those fenceposts were _secured_ into the ground using a fence post driver:
Given the height of those fence posts, I doubt they got on a ladder and used one.
I'm not gonna knock them too terribly much for not using properly driven fence posts or rebar for this structure because TBH it's really hard, shitty work. BUT, if you don't want to do that, you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO use lagbolts, at least 12" long, to secure your structure instead. There are absolutely shade structures you could buy/design that use lagbolts screwed into the hard-packed earth rather than posts/rebar, but why do it right when you can half-ass something flimsy and make more work for Future You, I guess?
ETA: The reason their infrastructure fails break my brain so hard is they're based out of either the Bay area or LA, correct? There's no way that their social circle isn't clogged with people who attend Burning Man. Building an off-grid desert community is A SOLVED PROBLEM. Are they willfully ignoring the reams of blog posts/YouTube tutorials/ personal peer accounts of how to create solid structures & community layouts?

You have to suggest it in such a way that he can think it was his idea orignally, its so fucking annoying, I cant imagine what working under this fuckhead must be like

All I will say is: Good fucking luck El Chumpo, Kjel has zero trust in Phil his pitifull band if tranny wanabee's so we are perfectly safe

This is going to be the final straw with Kjel and friends. At some point people will get tired deferring to a fat, ogre with terrible ideas as they face starvation and dehydration.
Right now people are just going along with him and El Niño but as things get worse and the fun and games end you’ll see people dropping them like a bag of potatoes.

Opening a line for family members and allies sounds like a great idea and a way for cis volunteers to help the cause. And maybe they’ll actually train new volunteers.
