Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Voice acting negatively impacts story quality as a whole and siphons funds that could go into other aspects of improving a game.
I think this goes doubly so when hiring "celebrity" voice talent. I mean it's one thing to have a bit of voice acting. Some games utilize it pretty well. But is there some particular reason Liam Neeson needed to play the dad in Fallout 3? It's just distracting.

The celebrity VAs usually are pretty mediocre anyway. It's a totally different skillset. The games with the best voice acting I've played mostly just hired a bunch of unknown theater actors for it. Guess there's more overlap. Something about having to project with your voice.

Does Bruce Boxleitner count as a celebrity? Because his performance is a major reason why Spec Ops works so well.

Other than that I do totally agree; I think that's why Rockstar Games in particular have phenomenal voice acting, since they mostly hire unknowns for their games.

Skin packs and mods help some, if it's any reassurance. And maps that don't use the default settings are a godsend, IMO.

I don’t understand why people think Shadow of the Colossus is so great. While the point of exploring is nice and dandy, it’d be amazing if there were things you could actually interact with. The big “Tragic Love Story” aspect also doesn’t make much sense to me either, in my opinion, Wander deserved everything he got, and was a selfish prick that I couldn’t find much sympathy for. Death happens, deal with it.
I did like the designs of the Colossi though.

Meme games are boring garbage and not fun at all. There's nothing fun about a pigeon dating simulator, just because PewDiePie giggled like a clown at it doesn't mean I should throw my money at it. Same for Life of Bread, Goat Simulator, and whatever that god awful baby simulator game was. They're garbage and only have like 30 minutes worth of shits and giggles in them.

Also PUBG is hot garbage. One of the most awkward shooters I've ever played in my life. Nothing feels fluid in that game at all. It looks incredibly ugly and unappealing too. Don't forget boring. When you land in a spot with someone else you awkwardly scramble for a shit weapon, and when you land somewhere with decent loot there's no one around for fucking lightyears and you spend half the game looting. Just to get shot by some loser lying prone in the grass blending in with the scenery. It's either a running simulator or waiting for something to happen.

not everything needs to be a fucking esport. especially battle royale games like fortnite. how the fuck are you supposed to tell what's going on in a 4v4 building battle? how are you even going to spectate it? what about the times where literally nothing is happening but teams running around for 10 minutes looting before finding another team? what about the incredible amount of rng the game is based on? ffs

Sonic the Hedgehog, as a series, has had more hits than misses. People keep going back to Sonic 06 as the ultimate example of the series failure, but that game is pretty exceptional compared to those that came before and since. I've even seen internet commentators make the point that the current crop of games are so bad that they retroactively ruin the Genesis trilogy, which is just pants-on-head retarded even if you don't like 3D Sonic.

Just to back my point up, I'm going to rank every main game post-Genesis, based on both my own opinion and critic reviews, and we'll see what the hit to miss ratio is.

Sonic Adventure: Critically acclaimed at the time, some say it hasn't aged well but most still seem to regard it as a good game. It's not my favorite, but I'd give it a solid 7/10. Hit
SA2
: Also critically acclaimed, the HD release a few years ago was also well received. Easily one of my favorite games in the whole series. Hit
Heroes
: The closest 3D Sonic has ever come to truly recapturing the spirit of the Genesis games. Critics loved it, but unfortunately it's never been rereleased so I have no idea what they would think of it now. In my book, it's second only to Sonic 3. Hit
06
: A total disaster, and thanks to Game Grumps' memetic LP it became the launching point for all the "Sonic was never good" BS that still gets copypasted all over the internet. I enjoy it in the same sense that I like Jurassic Park Trespasser; it's such a train wreck that it's fascinating to experience firsthand. Miss
Unleashed
: There are two totally different versions of this game. The version released for Xbox 360 and PS3 is very divisive, opinions are split down the middle about whether it was awful or a return to form. The Wii version got generally positive reviews, and it was this game that paved the way for the next few entries. IMO, the PS3/360 version is one of the worst games I have ever played and the Wii version is okay. Miss and Hit
Colors
: Even the most cynical critics had to admit that this game was pretty damn good. It took the parts of Unleashed that were well received and improved them, while also cutting out the fat for a much leaner and more satisfying experience. This one ties with SA2 for me. Hit
Generations
: Another critical slam dunk; the inclusion of classic Sonic was a major selling point even for people who hadn't liked any of the previous 3D games. I'm not as fond of it as most people seem to be, I rank it just below Adventure. Hit
Lost World
: This was a game that nobody asked for. Critics and fans alike were confused and disappointed by it, and I feel pretty much the same. Miss
Forces
: Although it didn't exactly get glowing critic reviews, the word of mouth has been fairly positive and I think it's a big step up from Lost World. I'd rank this as a tie with Adventure. Hit

So, altogether that's a ratio of 7:3, or 70% positive. If you include the Genesis trilogy and Mania (4 hits), Shadow the Hedgehog (miss), Secret Rings (hit), and Boom (miss) the ratio is 12:5/71%. If you include the GBA and DS entries (5 hits), it goes up to 17:5/77%. Unless you're grading on a 7-10 scale like most video game critics these days, those are fairly good results.

Give me your :autism: ratings if you want, I'm just tired of every discussion about these games turning into a bunch of people who have never played them spouting tired memes from 10 years ago as if that constitutes an informed opinion.
