2018 Oscars - Predictions, live reactions, and the (hopefully) messy aftermath.

Really glad "Dear Basketball" one for best short film. I think Kobe Bryant is now the only athlete where if you walk into his trophy room, you will see 5 NBA championship rings, MVP awards, and an Oscar all together.

I'm very biased towards "Dear Basketball" because I have to admit, I'm been a Lakers fan my entire life and I grew up watching Kobe Bryant being the all star that he was on the court. I usually can't stand inspirational sports films because of how schmaltzy and trite they can be , but when I watched this short film on TV during Kobe's number retirement ceremony, I'd be lying if I said it didn't pull on my heart strings a little. I have to give the film credit where credit is due. It gave me feels for a fucking athlete of all people.

Dear Basketball is here if anyone wants to see it (as far as I can tell, it's an official upload, a "portfolio item" from Believe Entertainment Group).

It's directed by Tangled character designer Glen Keane (son of Family Circus cartoonist Bil Keane), so I can't help but see a little Rapunzel in 6-year old Kobe Bryant's face.

I liked Three Billboards best, but The Shape of Water is my second choice and ultimately I'm glad it won because the Get Out stans would be absolutely unbearable if Three Billboards won. I did actually like Get Out, but the hardcore fanbase is terrible.

And the hardcore fanbase is still being terrible. Not as terrible as they would've been if Three Billboards won, but they're still acting like The Shape of Water wronged them personally. I hope that makes people start to see their true colors, though, because their negative reaction to the film with a Mexican director and a disabled protagonist winning because "not enuf duhversity" proves that the only "diversity" this particular group cares about is how many black people are in it.

"I remember going to see 'Wonder Woman,' sitting in the theater and hearing women cry at this big action extravaganza. And something clicked," Berry Jenkins said. "And I’ll say it, this is what white men feel all the time, and all these women are having this experience for the first time. I imagine it will be the same thing when people go see 'Black Panther.'”

This quote though

Just goes to show how pathetic some people are.

Haven't these bitches seen Aliens? Or Terminator 2?

I'm still a bit miffed that James Franco didn't get a nomination for Best Actor solely because of Hollywood's current PR campaign. At the very least, he could have made a Gary Oldman win less obvious.

Or the Denzel Washington nod less transparent.

Hell either Michael Shannon, Doug Jones or Andy Serkis would have been a better choice than fucking Denzel if they really didn't want to acknowledge James Franco.

Why would Three Billboards specifically have pissed off Get Out autists more than The Shape of Water?

It's spoiler related but
Sam Rockwells character, Dixon, is blatantly implied to be a racist in the first 15 minutes of the film and in the trailer.
He gets a redemption arc.... kinda? If anyones seen the film they know its a lot more complicated and greyer than that- more like a "I understand why this person is the way they are" arc than anything

Do Get Out stans realize that no matter how much "history" was made last year, the Academy is too big of a circlejerk to snub Del Toro (or fuck, anyone else who got the nomination) by having a film by a new director win Best Picture? I guess that's wypipo's fault too, though.

Also "the Alt Right loves Blade Runner so it's bad and shouldn't get any awards"? The alt right also loves putting screeds on twitter about things they don't like, but you don't see a reduction in that because of it.

The only nominated film I saw was The Disaster Artist.
I saw Shape of Water & Lady Bird. Out of the two, I liked Lady Bird more. If you like green text stories from 4chan and are perfectly okay with chick flicks then check it out.

Shape of Water was good as well hell, I considered it to be a great part of Universal’s Monsters trilogy in its own right. But what killed it for me was that in the second act it became predictable with the exception of the ending because I never saw it coming. Plus Del Taro thought it would be necessary to describe what the creature’s dick was as well as having an unnecessary sex scene that just came out of nowhere. But still if you’re a person like me who enjoys old horror and sci fi movies give it a shot, you might like it.
Twitter right now:
SJWs: We want minorities to win.
Oscars: Here you go Hispanics.
SJWs: No, not like that.
Kind of ironic that a movie that’s about to not have too much black privilege has fans wanting blacks to have more privilege.

It's beyond obvious at the point that the only minorities they want to get Oscars are black people and nobody else. Never mind the fact that last time I checked, Asian people got less Oscars out of all of them. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Robert Pattinson was snubbed for Good Time.

I liked Get Out more than The Shape of Water, but I'm fine with the latter winning because GO was the most overrated nominee by far.

Didn't people get salty and lose their shit because An American Sniper was nominated for an Oscar, and the subject matter offended people? Because if An American Sniper was enough to make people lose their shit- I imagine they would have reacted the same if Billboards did win.
