It's at least partly because he managed to yank some of the RAM out of place when he was unboxing like an ape. I remember him running some specs and noticing half his RAM wasn't there. Naturally it was beyond Phil to actually look inside the machine so I doubt that ever got fixed, Phil just assumed the guy ripped him off. As I recall it was actually a good PC for the time, apart from, you know, the user.Nah, the $3000 one was a prebuilt he purchased online. You're thinking of the other one that a fan built and loaded with some software for him. Phil paid for it and then said the guy ripped him off, basically, because Phil couldn't make it work the way he wanted.
