With very little effort on her part, she could have easily been the next big name in jackass social justice Twitter braying. The table was set. After her firing, she had a wave of popular support and every game journalist on the story ready to do her bidding. She could have written a few articles about her deeply held, intensely stupid opinions about nearly anything, somebody would have printed them. When, of the big three "women bothered about sexism in gaming," the hottest of them is Zoe fucking Quinn, a serviceable 6/10 willing to flash her tits can make some headway. I watched her Twitter-squabble with some bald, beardy Polygon writer, slapping him around with her sex worker credentials and rubbed my hands with glee. Ali Rapp was going to make some waves, I told myself.

And then... nothing. I had greatly underestimated this woman's incredible laziness. The change from "Intersectional Shenanigans" to "Poorly executed cosplay and lewds" was just the last nail. It's a small thing, but one I started to look for: In *every* article about Alison Rapp after the initial frenzy, the writer mentions wondering what became of her and going to seek *her* out. She's never pushed her own brand. Brianna Wu is more savvy.

There was once a time when I would have bet money on her ending up big and loud and stupid. And now her star fades. It's infuriating enough that I want to shake her shoulders, "You had every advantage! How could you fuck this up?" And then one surveys her entire life.

Even if she gets a name change, I don't see how she could explain away a work history of going from Product Marketing Specialist for Nintendo to two years of nothing (well...nothing one could put on a resume, at least). And her departure from Nintendo was high profile enough that it would be easy for a competent HR person to figure things out even after a name change. Not to mention that if they were to verify past employment or educational credentials, she'd need to provide her old name regardless.

Maybe she could stock shelves at Walmart, but she's not getting a proper marketing or communications job again unless it's with some hardcore "sex positive" feminist organization or something (in which case it wouldn't even be necessary to wipe her social media presence).
