People who are fans of western animation will probably not need any introduction here, John Kricfalusi is the creator of Ren and Stimpy and a pioneer of cartoons. He's also kind of a nut, and was fired from Ren and Stimpy because of his inability to meet deadlines and his bizarre ego he put into his own series. Him and voice actor Billy West had a falling out since John asked Billy to quit in protest, something Billy was unwilling to do. If you've got an hour to kill, you can watch this painfully awkward clip of them reuniting for the first time on The Howard Stern Show.

John K. got another chance to work on Ren and Stimpy with Spike TV's Adult Party Cartoon, and it's generally regarded as one of the worst cartoons of all time. 99% of it is graphic gay sex and fingering, starring Ren and Stimpy, interspersed with random guro clips. I won't link it here but KimCartoon has the series up if the morbid curiosity is too much for you.

This makes him a decent celebrity washout to laugh at, but obviously a lolcow is supposed to be infamous for their dumb postings online, and lucky for us John K. has more than enough on that front. His now inactive blog, John K. Stuff, is essentially the epicenter of autism in the cartoon community, having over 600 posts going back a decade, almost all of which controversial in some respect.

One of its biggest contributions to cartoon sperg lexicon was the phrase "CalArts style", which was originally John's way of describing fluid, Disney-like animation but has since been misappropriated to cover basically anything on Cartoon Network. Part of John's sperg crusade against the CalArts style comes in his hatred of "bland" looking movies. His blog about them got a lot of shit in the comments after he implied the Iron Giant failed because it looked bland, despite it being seen as one of the greatest animated films of all time.

While John's criticism of the prevalence of the CalArts style seems, at face value, kinda reasonable, in reality John just hates any artstyle besides his own. He's complained about everything from Total Drama Island to furry porn to Shrek. Also fun fact, these drawings in that last post were pictures a fan emailed to him and he trashed for no reason. That fan is now a famous animator, and has more gainful employment than John will ever see again.

As a little bonus, you can read this unhinged post about how he'd run a kids network. Ironic that the man who launched so much unwarranted 90s kid nostalgia has some rose colored glasses himself.

John, outside of his Blogspot, is also known for his Kickstarter scam. In 2012, he launched a Kickstarter for a new cartoon called Cans Without Labels. It raised over $100K from 3,562 backers, and was set for release in February 2013. As you can imagine since I'm discussing it here, the cartoon hasn't been finished and all that exists of it is test footage, compiled below;

The last updates on the Kickstarter page were in 2017 and the project now only pops up when people are discussing crowdfunding failures. None of the backers have been refunded and they probably never will now. Why's that?

Recent news has come to light about John K. being a child predator. The allegations being made are vast in what John's being accused of, but the pattern is that he met up with underage women via AOL, lured them in by telling them how talented and special they were, and flew them out to Los Angeles where he'd give them jobs at Spumco and shelter while at the same time, doing vastly inappropriate things to them. The source of these allegations is BuzzFeed, and while I generally distrust their reporting I have no reason to believe the women in the story aren't being legitimate since the photos included seem to back up their stories.

As it turns out, John's history of sexual harassment is pretty well established, although nobody knew the full extent of it. Remember the famous animator from earlier that John trashed? Well, he was shitting on John for being a creep all the way back in 2011.

I don't think he'll be as active after the news but I'm honestly a little amazed it took sexual accusations to make people realize what a garbage human being the man is. The man tried to ruin the reputation of the people who tried to keep his show going after he was booted off for good reasons - and he did, and he still inspires incredible hatred in those people.

And sexual accusations bring him down.

I don't think the whole behind the scenes drama is that a big deal for anyone outside of big animation fans/those in the industry since it can be waved away as 'He must be one of those eccentric creative types', even hitting on people half his age wouldn't have been that a big deal, being a pedo on the other hand is not going to be overlooked.

I honestly wouldn't care about this whole thing if he wasn't getting mushy with little girls. But this doesn't ruin any of the actual good stuff he put out because most of it was animated/written by Spumco staff and not John K. himself.

I dunno, I've seen threads about the guy on /co/ and almost none of them are positive, either calling R&S overrated or meming "WHERE'S CANS WITH LABELS?". Of course, /co/ is probably more autistic than John and his batshit followers who think everything sucks outside of old Looney Tunes cartoons. Yet when even they're making fun of you, you know you fucked up hard.

On a more personal opinion. I'm mixed about the guy. He does at least know his craft, and is right about a lot of things within the industry (like how most of the Filmation and DiC libraries are utter garbage in almost every aspect). But at the same time he'll decry Fat Albert, he'll praise The Flintstones or Yogi Bear, or even the 80s Jetsons revival despite those being largely one-note and mostly remembered for nostalgia these days also. Not to mention most of the stuff he's made is crap in their own way outside the original R&S run.

For the longest time, the man hated the Simpsons for not being cartoony enough (which is bullshit if you're referring to the first 6-7 seasons), but then he made these:

And not to sound like a certain cartoon reviewer *coughentercough*, I have actually watched "Ren Seeks Help", and it is bad. Not in the "This is meanspirited" way Enter thinks, but more the "This guy's got problems" kind of way. Like it's hard to tell how much of it's supposed to be played for comedy, and how much of it is just John's mentality being channeled through Ren that episode, and it's quite concerning. Then again from what I've seen, APC sucks even without that episode.
