TGWTG "Nostalgia Critic" / Doug Walker, Rob Walker, Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, Holly Christine Brown, et al - The Incompetent Predator-Protecting Upper Management of Channel Awesome, Doug Still Not That Funny

Doug Walker always struck me as a guy who'd probably do this shit till the day people pry the camcorder from his cold, dead hands.

It'll always be the same shit too. Like a time capsule of unfunny skits and overdue jokes. I think that's the point of the show though, and the few bits of insight he brings keep people watching. It definitely could be autism doing that though.

TGWTG is a goddamn trainwreck

"Hello Mr. Walker. I'd like to ask you about the gameshow". He didn't really understand. I had to ask again, much more specifically about Pop Quiz Hotshot, that it may have not been received all that well, and what they were going to do with it. He thought for a second, then told me with a bold, calming tone that they had received the fan feedback and decided to retool the show. Filming was set to begin in mid-June. There was no sense of apology or sincerity in his voice.

Well shit, what was he supposed to do? Flail around and beg for forgiveness like he did in that Ghostbusters video? This one sounds totally normal.

I've either lost my heart to a starship trooper, or this is some Hot Gossip.

The contributor doc is fascinating. Though I was amused that Lindsay's reason for leaving boiled down to "They didn't pick a side in GooberGrape."
Two degrees removed from GG, to be fair. There aren't too many people who'd call downloading child porn a "good idea," and she just happened to luck out.

Oh man has Doug done some damage.

His "Animaniacs Style" club deluded Spoony's mind into thinking Spoony was allowed to act like a Cartoon character jackass in real life professional events. This ruined Lordkat's professional endeavors.

That's TWO lives Doug ruined in one fell swoop.

Mike Michaud strikes me as a person who probably only holds a bachelor's degree from a third rate institution in some vaguely-related business proficiency—someone who is thoroughly unqualified to run an international entertainment company, and just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Has anyone looked into his education? I'd be surprised if he had an MBA from anywhere reputable.

I don't know how he smooth-talked Doug into basically giving him the keys to the castle, but it's safe to say that there's no way Doug could ever get rid of him even if he wants to. Michaud not only owns the Nostalgia Critic IP, but also the majority shareholder in Channel Awesome, and there's probably other stipulations like non-compete clauses that Doug is under in the event he wanted to terminate his own involvement and withdraw his shares.

Basically, a completely unqualified autist who was way in over his head trying to run something like Channel Awesome has had everyone by the balls since day one.

I don't even think he has a degree. If I remember correctly, @LordKaT said he was just a stock boy at some retail store who was friends with the Walkers.

For anyone wondering, there's nothing too new in the contributor section in terms of dirty details from the main gang- a lot of this is info we either already knew or was posted about last month on Twitter. The only exception is Lindsay who claims that she left over Michaud getting pissy at Dan Olson over the 8Chan CP Gamergate thing. Also, despite having one of the shorter sections she manages to have the most visible typos which makes me wonder how many bottles of wine deep she was by that point.

Linkara also continues to be a revisionist, going from "I'm only on TGWTG because I can make money from it" to "I was trying to reform it from within."

Now that the google docs are out, I wonder if we'll be seeing a follow-up from Mister Mekotur about Channel Awesome. If so, I hope he doesn't fuck it up (again) since the information is presented on a silver platter.

Not meaning to give them any slack as I really have no respect for either Mike or Doug, but when this whole shitshow started in 2007, there was barely any actual precedent for the content they were created, other than aping off of James Rolfe. YouTube was relatively new and the whole idea of being able to support oneself as a content creator was still in its infancy. I think Mike and Doug paired up completely out of naivety, not realizing the magnatude of how much people wanted to watch some skinny shrieking man go on about the Care Bears movies. And once they started to make a name for themselves, greed and pride kicked in and they figured they could run like this forever. Whoops.

I'm reading through the document right now. Even if it's a lot of information that has been revealed before, it's nice to have one place to have every account instead of these stories being spread out over 50 other websites.

Also, I found a paragraph on pg. 18 during Lupa's section that I think speaks volumes about Doug Walker and his style of comedy.

Also worth remembering, as Slowbeef once put it, the rules keep changing on them, as they do for all content creators.

YouTube is hostile to their kinds of videos, and then it isn't, then it is again. One video a week is fine, until it's one main video every two weeks with smaller projects scattered in between. And so on.

From what I've heard here, Jim never actually wanted to do the TGWTG series. It was a Patreon goal or a request that got popular and he felt obligated to do it. It's very clear when you compare it to, say, his recent Kurt Eichenwald video or his first episode on the Honey Badgers that those are more interesting to him on a personal level over some people who talk shit about movies and comics on the internet.
