President Donald J. Trump Proclaims April 2, 2018, World Autism Awareness Day

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presiden...aims-april-2-2018-world-autism-awareness-day/
World Autism Awareness Day is an opportunity to recognize and support all children and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Today, millions of adults and an estimated 1 out of every 68 children in the United States have been diagnosed with some form of ASD. Notwithstanding these diagnoses, Americans with ASD make exceptional contributions across our Nation and around the world. On this day, we honor their accomplishments and recommit to ensuring that they enjoy the same opportunities to fulfill their potential that all Americans deserve.

Lol Trump's son is into traps.

I wish the media/commentators/etc would leave Barron out of it.

However the kid may be wired up neurologically, he didn't run for office, and his mom makes very significant efforts to keep him out of the public gaze.

Whatever you think of his dad's administration, we can be pretty certain Barron isn't being consulted about any of that shit, so he's not a legitimate subject of public scrutiny.

His big siblings have a public and political profile. They choose that. They are fair game.

He's just a kid. And if he's exceptional, well, he's entitled to the same privacy as other little kids, exceptional or not.

:autism: All jokes aside, that's actually really nice. The autistic are a legitimately disadvantaged group and our allegedly heartless and sociopathic president is choosing to honor them and bring focus to both their unaddressed struggles and their capacity to make meaningful contributions to society if given the proper support. This is probably one of the most humanizing statements I've seen any public figure make about the autistic.

I'm not sure how Trump's blind detractors are going to find a way to shit on this, though I know they will. /:autism:

How about World Major Depression Awareness Day? I mean, think of all the wonderfully somber, moody art, music, and literature produced by folks with the perpetual blues!
/trying not to blatantly :powerlevel: here....

Our culture may be to blame for some missed "diagnoses in girls. In general, girls are expected to be quieter and less assertive than boys. A girl who appears shy and withdrawn may be seen as acceptably "feminine," while a boy with the same behaviors is considered to be atypical. Similarly, a girl who seems "spacey" and unengaged is often described as "dreamy," while a boy with similar behaviors may attract negative attention."
