TGWTG "Nostalgia Critic" / Doug Walker, Rob Walker, Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, Holly Christine Brown, et al - The Incompetent Predator-Protecting Upper Management of Channel Awesome, Doug Still Not That Funny

All the people left seem to be people that throw their videos up on CA just for a less than a 1% increase in exposure.

Guru Larry and Niggeled Nieto will probably stay on without knowing or caring about the drama.

I'm willing to bet that Larry already knows. As often as he chimes in when it comes to other content creators, he seems like the type of person who likes to keep current with events.

Does anyone really think this'll do anything in the long run? It seems like the site was always 'The Doug Walker Show' anyway, and despite 100,000 vlogs of fat asspies all blurting the same spiel over and over again the Woody Woodpecker video is still over half a million hits in a couple of days (and this was a re-up someone said?) with a barely noticeable lack of thumbs down.

My money is on him still pumping out videos to roughly the same numbers 6 weeks from now like nothing ever happened. "Channel Awesome" as a collective is dead but I don't see the Walkers seeing any real downside from this except the bruised ego of the CA brand going from an umbrella to just them, Tamara, and a handful of other idiots. I'd be really surprised to see anything of consequence come from this.

To add on this: Doug was forced to return to NC years ago because the site couldn't survive without it, and that was before even Lupa and Phelous left.

That said, even if their combined viewership wasn't much compared to NC it was still an okay chunk of ad money. It is a financial loss, but not a huge one. The damage is more reputational.

A bit :late:, but criticism started to appear on website itself.

I personally think it's a bit :autism: to hope, or even expect Channel Awesome will "die." I'm just enjoying the shit show while it lasts.

I do believe a likely outcome of this is them rebranding "Channel Awesome" in some way (Maybe downsizing to just the Critic), if only for the stigma.

Side note, this random dude brings up some pretty good points:

Not sure if joke. But yes he's right and what I was talking about earlier in the thread; how everyone is being so supportive of these guys leaving and not one person has sincerely mentioned "Where the fuck was your outrage 5 years ago when the shit was happening?" is weird. But I guess a lot of them are just more pleased to see their "enemies" at CA get dogpiled than anything.

ppl are inherently distrusting of shit that does not happen organicly, this was all spawned off a twitter conversation that no one expected to blow up to this size

more than half of everyone involved is an easy to discredit loser that wouldnt have been able to get the ball rolling on their own

Wait wait wait, Michaud wasn't just a retail guy, he was also fired for "making too much money."

Firstly, that doesn't make any sense; Michaud would have to be fucking up something fierce if he got fired from a retail job of all things. Secondly, considering he got fired from a retail job, then that should have been a big red flag right from the start that maybe, just maybe, this dude wasn't qualified to run a whole new business.

Bizarrely that one might actually be legit. Back in the day Circuit City had some really psychotic HR policies. One of which was any sales staff or departments that were producing better numbers than the baseline, were hauled on the carpet and treated as likely thieves and embezzlers. “They must be running some scam to inflate numbers”. In most cases the employees were simply knowledgeable and putting some effort in. Circuit Cities internal gestapo quickly cured them of that. Yeah they were notorious for firing people for having good sales numbers. It’s actually one of the key reasons they failed. They rapidly drove off any and all competent staff. While leaving the ones that actually were stealing from them in place. Heck even Moviebob published a rant about it in years past. (He apparently faced much the same situation.) If you want to know where Michaud learned bad and sociopathic paranoid mismanagement techniques. Circuit City would be the likely place.

Asa's been producing drama content on reviewers for years...I'm pretty sure at one point he wanted to be on thatguywiththeglasses or a similar site that went down in flames and got mad about it when no one wanted him around.

Yeah. That actually happened. He was one of the biggest anti tgwtg spergs out there.
though I think his shitposting content in parts is kinda funny. And now... well, he has a point about how this changethechannel thing goes down.

Doug is apparently at EmpireCon with Brad today. Oh to be a fly on the wall at that panel.

Predictions? Hopes?

I think the panel will be rammed, but Doug will just get bombarded with protests, and awkward questions until he starts freaking out, either having people removed from the hall or just walking.

I hope Brad just laughs his arse off at the whole thing.
Any stories or news come outta this?

Business wise pretty much all of the other producers were just there to generate some sort a white noise filler in between NC and Brad episodes. A few were decent in their own right, but none were heavy primary draws. And with the shift to YouTube likely more trouble than they were worth from CA’s POV.
