I met John Polonia once nice guy, I think the biggest budget for one of their more well known films was Feeders and the budget was a grand total of $500, now compare Feeders, to any of Doug's films and tell me which feels more like a movie and more entertaining.Nigga, I was talking about movies produced by Troma. Not just pickups. Troma will pick up anything though especially these days.
A better comparison might be the Polonia Brothers:
But I make you a bet that John Polonia (Mark died a couple years ago) had less money to work with than the Walkers and most likely treated the cast and crew a lot better.
The irony is that he's a bigger fuck up than Wiseau. The Room at least looks like a movie. That adds to the charm. Plus Wiseau accidentally made a great comedy. Doug and Rob tried to make several good comedies and fucking failed.
Tommy Wiseau is a better entertainer and comedy writer on accident than Doug is when he's trying his best.
If I was Doug Walker, hearing that revelation would be what finally drove me to go an hero.
This is not in the least bit controversial. Nostalgia Critic (and Lupa, who was there first, technically) caught The Room just as it was graduating beyond "L.A. curiosity" and breaking into the mainstream. What I would like to know, is it possible that Doug has actually contributed to Tommy being wider known?
Hear me out on this one: As someone who is not an American, I can say that in Germany, no one knows really who Wisseau is. The Room has never aired on any major network or or specific channels and if it did once in a while, not in a manner as back when Adult Swim did it once for april fools
I know many people who have only heard of the movie, thanks to the exposure Doug agve it in hsi review. And I know he was not the first person to do it, but his "drama" when it was taken down etc. helped I think in its notority, which was later taken on by other reviewers too.
Doug, having been ore of a major reviewer back in these days, heped make Tommy Wisseau wider known. And I think that, in combination with other things kinda helped Tommy become known even more/helped his infamy from which he is now actually making a new career.
Or in short: Walker, at least in the online community, accidentally contributed in parts to the sort of infamy Wisseau has now. The Disaster Artist may have made Tommy now widely known for a movie audience, but Doug did it for the internet consumers.
That sounds about right for filmbrain tbh.Not all of them are deleted, apparently most of them are moved to Archived Shows section. And if you know particular producer's username na CA website, their vids are still accessible on their author's website (e.g. MikeJ, FilmBrain).
Fun fact though, for others, like Nash and Linkara, even his author page is nonexistent. Guess only a selected couple are worthy getting nuked, with others just thrown in a bin and forgotten.
Do you think after all the dust has settled we'll have a chance at getting a Seth Rogen flick outa this? It's really hilarious of how Doug had a beef with Tommy Wiseau back in the day, cause he's the closest thing to Wiseau in terms of managing and movie directing.
I answer with El Mariachi (1992), Robert Rodriguez's first film, which was made on a $7,000 budget. Made $2 million in the box office and was inducted into the Library of Congress in 2011.Nah, they had more money than you think. I want to say in the $20K range for the anniversary videos (aside from the last one that was a series of short films). And I want to say that was after the cost of airfare. I'd ballpark the budget to be somewhere around $10-20K.
And before someone chimes in "20 thousand dollars is nothing. You can't make anything good with that!" I answer with:
The immortal classic Pink Flamingos had a budget of $10K back in 72:
And etcetera and etcetera.

Man, look at that sub count drop.
It's like The Fine Bros. fiasco all over again.

Tarnation was made on an initial budget of $218.32, while Amateur Porn Star Killer was made on a $45 budget.
Basically, the Walker Brothers had enough money to make a good film, only to fuck up.

Given the ensuing video takedowns, they were also (unfortunately) the first people to bring into question just how much Wiseau is willing to play the "black comedy" angle.Exactly, although I'd argue that they were a small cog in a larger machine in regards to film gaining notoriety. It was destined to be noticed by the mainstream and they just made it happen a bit sooner.

Even all the money in the world won't save you, if you are a) not a good actor and b) your idea for a story is literally "lets walk around like a bunch of childrne, be loud and reference shit over and over".
Even ignoring all the drama with channelawesome, I always looked at the anniversary movies in retrospect as followed:
Kickassia: I actually liked it when it happened, but that was more because I was under the illusion the guys care for each other and it was still awesome to see people I like come together to make some sort of bigger project. Then you wait for a few months, look at it again when the hype has died down and you realize, it did a pretty awful job at portraying anyone as anything else than a prob for Doug.
Suburban Knights: Terrible. Just terrible. Not even going to try and defend anything. Kickassia was compared to that garbage a master piece.
To boldly Flee: Technically speaking better than Suburban Knights. But also a 3 hour wank fest with reference over reference. I mena, the movie is just a gobbled up version of Ghostbusters, Flight of the Navigator and Star Wars/Trek, with shitton of stupid other gag references.
And then just add all the behind the scenes drama and there you have it folks: garbage.
Doug, as Lupa herself says, doesn't have an original bone in his body. And that is where a lot of his failures steam from in my opinion: Doug does not know how to tell a compelling and funny story on his own, without relying to heavy on the ideas of others.
I remember when I first sat down to watch Kickassia and barely a minute in Doug chooses to plagerize a bit from a Wile E. Coyote cartoon.
If she (yeah yeah, I know) let herself be treated like scum because she was sucking up for getting onto CA then what happened afterwards? From what I've read about IL, she's less of an asshole than Linkara is/was, but stunts like the "imma real girl, look at my hrt breasts" would suggest she's just as much of an asshole as the most of them, and she really didn't have a big problem with CA. It further calls into questions how much of the document is legitimate, and if Michaud is evil incarnate as the document suggests or just incompetent. Lindsay's portion creates about the document, like where she defends Olson, or just brings up the "streak of harassment against female contributors" bit without going to much detail (an earlier poster pointed out that if Lindsay did any sexual favors for CA/Doug, she absolutely would've brought that up).It seemed like she didn't say anything because she wanted to get signed to the channel. Which she did 3 months after the anniversary movie was filmed.
