i think the artist themself once said on their twitter that the character identified as some tumblr shit? like agender or that they identify as a dude and wishes to be called "he/him, they/them" and doesnt want to be considered a girl. sorta something like Ash(tearzah).
(also i'm pretty sure tearzah and leafilie are friends, so guess they referenced heavily off of tearzah)
i cant really remember much so i'm probably way off lol.

It's just some dumbass story. I see no one claiming that all black people are descedant of pharaos. And the cover having someone from Egypt, and claiming that's "boiling Africa down to Egypt" sounds some really seeking to be offended-level stuff.

Also who would read a story about someone going back in time to watch their ancestors being peasants dying from plague in some ditch. So I guess the characters having more exciting family history is justified.

Reminds me of people sperging over outfits and something about character agency because design or something like that. Maybe i've lowered my standards too much but IMO these redesigns are so small and OP still had their quirks in mind so it's kinda okay and the reaction was disproportionate.
