TGWTG "Nostalgia Critic" / Doug Walker, Rob Walker, Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, Holly Christine Brown, et al - The Incompetent Predator-Protecting Upper Management of Channel Awesome, Doug Still Not That Funny

For the longest time I thought Mike Michaud was the indian guy.

Then I find out that he's just some cuck that was thirsty for Lindsay and Mike Michaud is a bald, lisping faggot.

Doug... I don't know. I like to think that he's somewhat of a nice person in person, that he might not be an egomaniac with a chip on his shoulder, but on the other hand, who knows? He did quit that job in the most exceptional way.

But this Mike Michaud faggot is just that.

I wonder what's going through Doug's head with all this. I'll cut him some slack and assume rather than being an egotist who sees everyone else as subservient, he just like to focus on making his own videos, and leaving everything else to other people.

I don't really expect him to address #ChangeTheChannel in his reviews, because they'll last longer than the drama, it'd "date" the videos.

I kinda wonder how would that 10th anniversary movie had been like...A horror parody? Aside from the usual Doug ego-stroking, I kinda wonder what else they could've done. Goldmark running around? Tamara never seeing any horror movie?

If we were writing it? Yes, you'd have those gags. You'd have them make some gags or references to Tamara never seeing a bunch of very very worn out Horror Movie tropes. That could actually be kind of funny and poke fun at the fact that some of her videos do seem to push credibility, sheltered life or not.

Malcolm would check out of the film straight away (Blacks always die first, fuck that), and be one of those meta moments of the whole production grinding to a halt as he flounces off to his trailer.

Horror parodies are one of the few moments when shamelessly ripping off to take the piss can work out very well (Scary Movie leaps to mind). But you still need your additional semi-original "hook". Something which Doug doesn't seem to have the talent for.

And that would be a problem: What sort of "original" take would he take?
Considering it is Walker, it may have been essentially Scary Movie 2-5. You know, the bad ones, instead of the first one.
And then there is also what would have been left in 2018 compared to lets say 2012.
People can say about Boldly Flee what they want, but it was made at a time when there were Phelous, Obscura Lupa, Linkara, JewWario, Spoony and others at their "peak" within the group. People someone may have been interested to see goof off on screen.
But by 2018? Who cared really about the people on channelawesome in the present time, their own lolcow dramas not withstanding.
There was no way this special could have been pulled off succesfully to the degree people associated channelawesome with over half a decade ago.

That said, I would love to see the script just to see how bad it could have been.

CA's greatest contribution to current year culture is the thorough demonstration of what gender studies does to women via the Lindsay Ellis example

as you watch her videos in chronological order you can literally watch her turn from a pretty, bubbly, enthusiastic college freshman into a haggard, bitter, fat, single mid-30's legbeard right before your eyes

I can't really remember what the old site looked like, why did it need a certain amount of daily slots? I remember a "grid" where the main contributors each had a section, and then there was "Team TGWTG" for the lesser ones, so surely everyone could release two videos a day and it wouldn't matter?

Wait, was there one of them "slideshow" things at the top of the page, showing titlecards for that day's new vids? if so, i guess I can kiiind of see why it'd be limited, though there's no reason that thing couldn't have 12 a day?

It has a slideshow with a limited number of options. As others have pointed out, around Christmas time it would be cluttered with Doug stuff since he would post every day

Haven't seen anyone mention this, but the doc has been updated, according to MarzGurl.

EDIT: OK, just read the update. One was from some person named Leslie Rice. I have no idea who she is.

The second, and most interesting, addition came from IronLiz. She has quite a bit to say about the making of Suburban Knights.

Just read the updates myself. IronLiz gives more information on the terrible working conditions of the anniversary movies (namely Suburban Knights). She also discussed the terrible "slot uploading" schedule and trying to help CA with their finances.

Rice's account just gives more information on how terrible the upper management runs the site.

Lesile Rice is Terror Obscura (and male), one of the newer producers. Decent horror reviews, seems like a decent guy. I watched him before he was signed to CA & he was really excited when he finally got picked up. Ah, the disillusionments of youth.

Also. has Holly or Fredrik confirmed they're doing an interview beyond that LiveStream...?

Ah, ok. Thanks! Might have to hunt down some of his videos.

Nothing that I have seen yet. Been keeping an eye on his twitter for news about it.

It'd be either Malcolm as Satan, Bill, or Hyper Fangirl snapping again.

Demo Reel, at the very least, forced Doug to write tighter scripts and the non-sweded bits were interesting in a shallow level (Jim and Rob's characters actually became vaguely interesting towards the end before being snatched away).

I'd have locked the critic back into the Demo Reel world as a horror thing, with the others having turned on him, and trying to get out into the real world, trying to replace Tamara and Malcolm.

The hook and twist would be at the very end, he just agrees and brings a crazed IRA cameraman and East German U-Boat captain on meth into the roster for skits.

I'm sure someone has probably said something similar by now. But going from what the docs have said, Doug seems to be at worst a completely ignorant fool with delusions of grandeur who isn't actively malicious, just oblivious to the things the people he puts in charge do.

In real life he'd probably be that wierd awkward guy who tries too hard to be funny you try to avoid, but otherwise don't have anything really against.

Doug has admitted in the past that he was somewhat of an outcast in school (I can also see Rob being a bit of a dick older brother when they were growing up), he went to college (I think?), got that janitorial job & then the NC blew up. He's never had to deal with the actual reality of being an adult: working with others, dealing with superiors, being held accountable, working up the corporate ladder, etc. He's surrounded himself with fans who stroke his ego and co-workers who do the same or are (or were) too intimidated by his e-fame to stand up to him. As overused as this word is, that sort of life creates a kind of self-styled Autism. You don't know how to interact with people, you don't learn social graces or social norms, even how to make small talk or how to 'shoot the shit' with people for the sake of networking....

I know that Welshy at one point took an extended break when he was dealing with some personal issues (prior to his leaving the site). He actually went out of his way to thank Rob & Holly for their patience & understanding when he finally did return. I think Michaud & Rob were too intimidated by him to make a fuss, like they did when other producers asked for a bit of 'personal time'. Mat's a smart guy, he'd have them tripping over their own words & pointing out their contradictions so fast their heads would spin & then implode.

Doug's story is essentially a repeat of DSP's: he's a social reject of society, doomed to never really amount to anything serious. However, the invention of YouTube gives him a platform he wouldn't have in the real world and he ends up finding popularity. Now his content is really terrible, it's beyond atrocious. The only reason he finds popularity is because he caught onto a trend or because there wasn't better content competing against him. The popularity causes his ego to swell enormously, and he become's delusional to the point that he thinks he's untouchable. He behaves and treats his fans and friends horribly because of this, all while his once huge amount of popularity slowly starts to fade as the times change. His shit behavior ultimately catches up to him, and his once prestigious internet career crashes as everyone begins to turn on him.

Now we only have two questions left: when does the fan video series "This Is How You DON'T Review" begin and when does Doug accidentally masturbate on stream?

Doug actually treats his audience and most of his coworkers well despite his swelled ego and that ego is mostly contained to the production of his films and it mostly manifests itself as stunning incompetence rather than mean spirited bullying.

He only really has one incident of being viciously mean to an employee and that seems to come from being misled by Michaud.

Well Doug himself is showing people how a bad reviewer reviews movies, by reviewing them after much successful guys do it first (Rapsitte street kids, Woody Woodpecker, etc.) as for the Masturbating thing, with a wife like his I'm sure that's gonna be a future endeavor in of itself.

Given how obnoxiously he mugs, I don't want to see his oh face.

Did I miss something specific, or is this just related to the same old?

A tuxedo rental company that was sponsoring the recent NC videos(and you could see Doug advertising them)announced today they are pulling off from Channel Awesome. It was already bad having big names like Linkara jumping out,but losing sponsorship due to the Change The Channel thing is way worse

tbh withdrawing sponsorship over people moaning about mismanagement, not taking sides in GG, and an anonymous person claiming to have been groomed despite being over 18, is a bit much
