Here, have some overwatch
I'm just gonna go and say that these aren't bad. Yeah, they're LGBT headcanons that probably don't make sense except for a few characters, but at least the didn't give everyone vitilego and 6 fake genders. I can tell who everyone is and tbh the style works for some of the characters. It's really not that bad. Or maybe I'm so desensitized to these artworks I can't feel anything anymore. I should just reiterate that just because a style is weird doesn't automatically make it SJW bullshit. At least these aren't saying "down with cis" or anything like that. It's practically harmless.
Also, I noticed that some of the trends mentioned in this thread (mostly the facial features) might stem from a popular dA tutorial series. It's called "From Manga to Realistic" and covers some basics that may be helpful to a few weebs. But at some point, "ugly" facial differences are brought up, like that condition where half of your upper lip is missing. I have no idea why.
I thought of these tutorials because I saw that condition somewhere on this thread. Would find and give a horrifying rating but I just signed up the other day on the Farms.
I've seen those too. I think the issue is that many of these people go and reference from other art as mentioned earlier in this thread. And honestly, the problem isn't necessarily a crappy tutorial (though to be fair it's not that bad). The issue is that these "artists" do not have
a fundamental understanding of the basics. I guarantee if you were to ask one of these people how to draw a hand they would whine and complain about it being too hard to do. The reason why their anatomy, lighting and coloring is so bad is because they continually copy artists (which is good for referencing), but don't understand how it works.
It doesn't matter if you have all the tools, if you don't know how to use them, you're screwed. The problem isn't that these people can't reference anatomy. The problem is that they WON'T out of pure laziness. You can copy any drawing really, but if you don't know HOW or WHY certain aspects work, you'll keep making the same mistakes over and over. We see it repeatedly in this thread with all these artists sharing that same mistakes. Wonky anatomy, shaky lines, stiff posture, muted awful colors
subtle hints of racism. It all continually repeats itself because these "artists" don't want to improve or have given up entirely. Which is shame because you can tell that some of these artists do have potential.
